This is probably a limitation by Here, nevertheless an issue.

Usually if I need the maps routing function I need it for navigating by bicycle, but unfortunately the option is not given. Only by car or by foot. Just recently when I was on my way, I took the route by car. Which led me to a street that was not allowed for bicycles, so I needed to drive around. Pretty much a pain, given the other limitations of the Directions feature: https://together.jolla.com/question/39734/bug-jolla-maps-does-not-update-the-current-direction-nor-the-covered-distance-as-i-travel/

I don't think HERE has bicycle routing. The REST API docs, which may or may not be indicative of the native functionality only has car, pedestrian and public transport.

In any case, it's probably better to use OpenCycleMaps http://www.opencyclemap.org if Jolla decide to implement routing via bicycle.

There are already some third party apps using OpenCycleMaps such as modrana although I find that quite buggy and of course Android apps if you can stomach the weird UIs.

YES! Cycling navigation would be just fantastic! It's likely to be a matter of app developer and agreement with e.g. Maanmittauslaitos in Finland to get to the point where one could download a map of liking and navigate using it. I'd be happy to pay for such and would also be willing to pay for updates as well. This was an idea I am greatly fond of, totally support it!

HERE do actually provide Cycling as well as Pedestrian and Car nav. It is up to the application to actually implement it. I use my N8 on my bike just for this reason.

@bmwebb@aegis HERE provide bicycle navigation as an option in their 6.2 API version. They apparently not longer do with API version 7.2. We are currently using the latter version.

While waiting for something better (HERE, Jolla, whichever, or something else), for bicycle routing right now, you can try Poor Maps, which includes OpenCycleMap tiles and MapQuest Open bicycle routing. MapQuest Open uses OpenStreetMap data; you can try the how routing works at open.mapquest.com.

I have had a look at Poor Maps, this looks promising! Thank you for the hint.
