is it just me or has the new update made the screen brightness too low, i have to adjust it to 100%

First off: In direct sunlight just boosting the display brightness is not enough -> the colors used etc needs to be changed too. There are some plans for that in the pipeline.
Overall: In the manual mode users can now choose the brightness level more freely. In the automatic mode the display should go darker than before in dark environments and should reach maximum brightness with less light than before.
Previously there were 5 manual settings (N * 20%, where N=1...5) and corresponding 5 automatic profiles. The 2 brightest automatic profiles had quite high minimum brightness which made the display stay rather bright even in complete darkness. Now the manual setting is direct 1-100% and there are 21 automatic profiles (chosen roughly like: setting/5) -> you probably need to find a new setting that is closest to your liking. The top end profiles will not use the minimum brightness possible, but do go dimmer than before in darkness.
Additionally there have been some changes to the ambience handling, which can contribute to how dark/bright the display is perceived.

If the adjustment does happen, but you can't find comfortable setting: feel free to complain and the quest for finding a solution that will annoy as few users as possible continues.
Doesn´t get bright enough with any trick. Could it be possible even to adjust all font colors to white or freely to any color? In some moods it´s hard to see letters even in bright display on dark background. Anyhow colored letters look a bit 80´s video production.

thanks for the answers, i've been poking around with the display brightness using alot of different "summer ambiances" posted here last couple of days and..well its better but.. Maybe the weather here in stockholm is simply too good!

Not just you. Changes in the (auto) brightness were mentioned in the release notes, and I also noticed that after the update the screen is noticeably darker with the same setting. Can't tell if it's good like this or not before testing in daylight.

I have also set 100% brightness, but when the sun is shining I cannot see anything on the screen, even when I take my sunglasses off. Edit: Just realized you were talking about the newly released version, I have this issue with the previous.
