I upgraded to Sailfish OS 1.10.7.16 this morning. Short after, my operator, Globul, installed some bloatware ¨My Globul" on the device. Avoiding such crap was one of the primary reasons I ditched Android and got a Jolla. The program can not be uninstalled by normal means.

Installing software on my device, without my consent, is proof of an unbearable arrogance. I talked with Globul, who claimed this application is in the SIM, and that they can not uninstall it. I cancelled my subscription with them (paying an average months salary in this country to get out of it), and found another operator that claims not to install software without my consent.

Anyway - I believe this is 50% Globuls fault, and 50% Jollas. Why do you suddenly allow operators to post-install applications on my device, without my consent? My first reaction was to solve the problem - today - at whatever cost (I was really, really angry).

Now, I want to know how to disable this "SIM Application Toolkit" support, so this don´t happen again. Ever. This is not a feature that give me as a privacy aware end-user any benefits.

Multiple ways that you can remove or hide it. From commandline:

# pkcon remove simkit

(or # rm /usr/share/applications/simkit.desktop)

It didnt install application on device, it is/was only in your simcard. Simkit is just kind of 'launcher' for the service in your simcard.

The STK is part of the GSM (2G) standard and USAT is part of UMTS (3G), so your only real chance is to find a SIM card without such programs. But due to the fact that they are stored on the SIM, these programs arent really huge and hardly bloatware. So i've just put them into an folder and will forget their existence really soon. ;)

I totally disagree. It may not be bloatware in the fact that its heavy to have on your phone. I would call it more like bloodware. This "app" on my N9 cost me about 100 euro. Just being there on the phone it can be activate when it's in your pocket. Yes that is what happened to me. So I was happy to get it out of my way in a Jolla. Now I want to get rid of it as well.

Ok, if you just want to hide these programs, than do what rainisto has posted above. But this will only make the programs invisible for you. They are still on the SIM-Card wich is in fact a complete computer with direct access to the baseband chip and is owned by your operator. You cant delete them and you cant prevent that your provider installs what ever he want on the sim card. Its just how mobile networks operate. Check osmocom.org and their talks on 29c3 if you want to learn more about it.
