When adding an email account, if you enter a wrong port for SMTP server (for example), the wizard informs the user that outgoing mail does not work. After accepting and saving one expects the account to appear in the account list, but it doesn't. I think it should appear even if some information is incorrect.

What is the use of broken accounts ?

If you notice you are not accepting but cancelling, check what says in the UI, however you can continue without configuring SMTP in case those are the settings that are incorrect, for IMAP/POP should not be possible to continue.

Its very annoying to try to add an account and the wizard says adding account is ok but then after going through the settings you have entered all are gone. And if the SMTP settings are not ok it does not mean that all settings are incorrect.

@Oskari Timperi - Humm, that should not happen it should not say that account is ok, can you reproduce that ? if so can you provide exact steps, what fields are wrong. Also what language is used and what errors are shown, can be translation issue as well.

Like I say is possible to add accounts without SMTP, there's a "continue" in that case with proper error saying that the account wont be able to send email.
