New message sound can not be muted for gmail after update Saapunki?

After installing the Saapunki update I changed my gmail email from a regular IMAP email to be read via a "Google" account. It is nice that it does not require an application specific passowrd anymore despite two-factor authentication being in use for the account.
However, I do not want sound notifications for new email messages and have thus set the Settings > System > Sounds & Feedback > Email: No sound. I do not get sound notifications for any other email accounts, but new gmail emails play a sound. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug/feature?
You might have email sound set on the current ambience.
