Is there any way to extract zip archives (and other types maybe) on the device?

It's all in the question. Not supported on OS level now, but maybe someone knows of some app that can do this?

Umm, the unzip binary comes with the system (at least I don't remember installing that separately) so it is as easy as:

unzip your_archive.zip

You can use other options of the unzip package for fine tuning to what you want. You can also use tar package to untar archives, and I think there are zlib and bzip2 libraries as well so you can do tar xzf and tar xjf to unpack .tar.gz and .tar.bz2 archives.

P.S. The File Browser app on Jolla Store claims as one of its features: 'View contents of APK, RPM and ZIP packages', but it can just list you the files, it won't extract the archive.

That's a great start, I expected it to be possible in the terminal. Now for another answer that doesn't require devel mode/terminal

Maybe you can ask it as a feature from the File Browser devs?

You could use an android file-manager (ES File Explorer) until a native app supports compressed files...

There's an app at OpenRepos. Unrar & Unzip extractor is a script for extracting ZIP and RAR files from Downloads directory.
