When I edit text in Opera Mobile (Android app) in text areas there is some problem with the automatic text completion. When I backspace to delete characters parts of the word re-appear in unpredictable ways. So if I start typing JOLLA then backspace to JOLL it might instantly become JOLLJOLLA or something, and then I keep backspace and it adds back parts of the word again, so it takes a long time to delete an entire word, and several times I have missed those errors and sent texts containing weird repeated sequences of characters.

Have not seen this in any other apps, but on the other hand I have not edited many texts in other Android apps, so maybe it happens elsewhere as well.

Did not see this until a few OS upgrades ago, but not 100 % sure if it was a SailfishOS upgrade or Opera Mobile app upgrade that caused it.

Is it the same as this problem and are you on the latest Sailfish version? https://together.jolla.com/question/39242/bug-predictive-input-1st-letter-doubling-in-android-applications/

If so then the issue should be reopened.

See my answer from November, which was based on experiments with the then-current version. I have not tested again after the latest update, but did not notice anything related to this in the changelog. I will add another comment once I have tried to reproduce again.

I still see this in the most recent Sailfish. I think it became rarer when I upgraded to the version that supposedly fixed the issue. So rare that I was not sure if it was still there or I just imagined it at times. But with some closer inspection now it is quit easy to reproduce. Sorry for not reporting back sooner.

While typing in a text area I jump to the end of some word (but not the last word?) by tapping, then tap backspace.

It happens frequently, but not every time. If I edit the text a few times, add and delete some characters here and there, it seems like it is set up for failing after that, so moving the cursor around and using backspace causes random previously entered bits of words to show up. Well, probably not random, probably the last partial incomplete word typed or something like that. Happens enough by accident to be annoying when trying to edit texts more than a few words in length.

Actually the cursor does not have to be at the end of a word. It can be anywhere. Once this behaviour has been triggered I can put the cursor in any random position in the text area and press backspace to insert the most recently partially input word.
