[1.0.7.16/18] Battery drain and heating up after Update 7 [not relevant]
Since I updated to the latest Firmware I've got massive Battery drain and the Jolla is getting very hot. Lighthouse says a Process called tracker-store is constantly using CPU with around 40-50%. Do anybody know this process or what to do? thanks!
Update: Today I had the same problem without tracker-store. My Jolla got very hot because different processes intensively used the CPU. Looking at Lighthouse told me, that the phone restarted by itself (uptime 10min) in my poket and tracker-store reappeared. Has anyone similar problems?
Update 2: Maybe the problem is linked to the new connman in my case, because after killing tracker-store in my case the phone also got hot in situation with poor wifi signal, where the phone always try to reconnect, I will figure it out with the old connman and report.
Update 3: still on 1.0.7.18, now it's appearing randomly - heating and massive battery drain - no special process but constant 50% CPU-Usage... :(
Update 4: maybe tracker-store is indexing the android apps rainisto (jolla) posted some kind of indexing after updating...
Update 5: got an answer from rainisto tracker-store is indexing your media files (may take up to 24h, if process is killed, will restart after restart)
Update 6: Tracker-store seemed to finish index, last time no need to kill the process - device still gets hot :(
Update 7: maybe related to mitakuuluu. Process doesn't appear in lighthouse but sometimes when CPU-Usage is high restarting mitakuuluu helps - who of you is using mitakuuluu?
Update 8: Developer is working on a fix in the futher mitakuuluu version: https://github.com/CODeRUS/mitakuuluu2/issues/141
Update 9: I observed my device for a couple of days. It's not only related to mitakuuluu gone wild. Battery drain is much higher than with paarlampi. Hunger Meter shows higher power consumption than before without using 4G...
Update 10: Maybe all lf us having problems should participate here: Battery Report for all Stages of Sailfish OS what do you think?
Update 11: 1.0.8.19 seems not to change anything in this case
Update 12: Mitakuuluu has been released in Version 0.8.1.-4, the release note describes different bugfixes and a probably fix for the 100% CPU-Usage-Problem. So let's have a try! I'm figuring it out since yesterday and I observed less battery drain through the night. I'm going to update the post in a few days with a final report, if the problems got fixed or if there other problems ;-)
Update 13: Sometimes I got the problems but under normal conditions no more problems. I have Hunger meter open all the time, in high power consumption phases I close mitakuuluu and reopen.
Final Update: Since massive problems with registration through mitakuuluu and getting banned for using mitakuuluu and Coderus stopping developing further, I switched to Android Whatsapp. Now my problems are gone. Now I have an average power consumption of 300mW, befor it was between 500-600mW. I don't know exactly if it is also related to updating to 1.1.0.39. Tracker-process don't use the CPU as much as before with the latest version.
noticed that when I use the camera or the internet then the area of the front camera is strongly heated.
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-14 01:02:50 +0200 )editi noticed the same problem of sa.rasputin
Francesco ( 2014-06-14 10:15:52 +0200 )editshould like to bring this issue developers.
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-14 10:31:28 +0200 )editDid you allready have a look at lighthouse while device is heated like discribed? Maybe it is also a special process causing the heat with intensiv CPU-Usage...
drummer12 ( 2014-06-14 16:52:28 +0200 )editHad a not so massive drain yesterday with 1.0.7.16: around 5% in half an hour without usage. Normaly the battery level reduces less than 5% during full night (8 hours without usage but WLAN connected).
Had used the hotspot for some minutes in the morning. Don't know if this was the cause.
Stopped all open apps. Checked top in terminal for CPU consuming processes. Nothing special. Battery drain still happened. Than switched on and off flight mode and it seemed to help.
axaq ( 2014-06-14 17:23:23 +0200 )editSame here, though no heat problems. Before update I managed well 3 to 4 days without charging, now only 1 to 2. My manners in using the phone has not changed, I am not using more nor less apps. The only visibly changed feature is that my Jolla now is on 4G, before update 3G. Could this affect the battery so much?
statler ( 2014-06-14 17:40:28 +0200 )edit@statler: I was not using/connected to 4G. But with 1.0.7.16 prefered network mode is 4G.
My battery drain happend yesterday when I was travelling by train and staying in offices with low mobile network signals and not established connection.
Maybe the drain depends on prefered 4G setting and searching for network connection. Will keep an eye on this.
axaq ( 2014-06-14 18:18:01 +0200 )editmay be and 4G. need setting preferably/only for 4G, 3G and 2G. or a ban on the use of the network with the level of less than 25% with the inclusion of hysteresis 10-15 percent until the signal becomes good.
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-14 18:25:37 +0200 )editand don't forget vote for question who have trouble with battery :)
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-14 18:27:23 +0200 )editI've started to have a big battery drain problem after Saapunki upgrade, but I have so far not found any single culprit. I do have 4G enabled, but looking at the 4G thread in another post it does not look likely it's the actual cause, but something else that changed in Saapunki. I have (normally) wifi, BT, GPS disabled, just 3G/4G enabled.
Mirv ( 2014-06-16 14:37:56 +0200 )editDid you already checked back with the App "Lighthouse" maybe you've got also the tracker-store problem I experienced?
drummer12 ( 2014-06-16 15:18:40 +0200 )editI experience increased battery drain today. From 25 % to 8 % within half an hour while listening music. Checking the processes with lighthouse there is only mittakuuluu background process using cpu time. After killing this process battery level goes down to 2 % quickly. I didn't see any tracker-store process.
fblm ( 2014-06-17 07:25:26 +0200 )editI've been checking with Lighthouse a lot, but I'm not seeing anything burning the CPU there at any point. Not even this morning, when the battery had dropped from 60%+ to 12% overnight.
Mirv ( 2014-06-17 07:28:59 +0200 )editprevious update worked more stable. android applications are closed by themselves, the volume in android applications fell. yesterday lost all connection (Wi fi and 2G, 3G, 4G) after a trip to the subway.
sa.rasputin ( 2014-06-17 08:24:15 +0200 )editToggling flight mode on/off helps here to cure the battery issue.
fblm ( 2014-06-17 13:05:54 +0200 )editSame problem here. Happened first time today, Battery drop from around 60% to 10% in around 2 hours, and the device was quite hot. Renders the device unusable.
lukedirtwalker ( 2014-06-17 17:53:00 +0200 )editMy problem seems to be Mitakuuluu, according to Lighthouse... I closed the app and reopened it and no drain.
dmelamet ( 2014-06-17 19:37:49 +0200 )editSuddenly I had high CPU usage and battery drain again, top/Lighthouse told me it is "le.android.talk" which seems to be the google Hangouts app, so the battery drain might be related to Android support (I'm using 0.11.5)?
lukedirtwalker ( 2014-06-17 21:56:15 +0200 )editI had similar battery drain once on this version, for some reason mitakuuluu was using a lot of cpu, even when background.
Whippler ( 2014-06-18 10:16:53 +0200 )edit1.0.7.18: Besides the problems described here (Mitäkuuluu and tracker-store using sometimes a lot of CPU) the device gets always really hot, when e.g. browsing with the native Browser using the mobile network (3G) and even worse, when using an Android Browser, e.g. Firefox. The battery drain is clearly related to the network, since when being in flight mode, the phone does not loose a single percent during 8 hours.
Jörg ( 2014-06-18 10:53:46 +0200 )editAlso my device didn't get noticeably hot when mitakuuluu was using cpu for no reason. Battery was just draining at quite a bit.
Only time my Jolla has gotten really hot is when actively playing Angry Birds Epic for a awhile.
Whippler ( 2014-06-18 11:58:42 +0200 )editI've noticed a similar behaviour, only when I am charging the phone over usb cable connected to my work computer. The wireless network is flaky tho, not using mobile data. During charging the back of the phone, just under the camera lens is getting noticeably warm and charging takes ages, even after charging is complete phone is still warm and battery level drops very fast. Running top I found harbour-mitakuuluu using 190% of CPU load, which can explain why battery drains so fast. I had no time to play with the rogue process, I just turned phone off. After reboot and off charging phone is fine. Charging at home on charger with more stable wifi I have no problems.
pmelas ( 2014-06-19 18:38:50 +0200 )editdefinitly lighthouse. Phone got freaking hot. Opened crest. Mitakuuluu >90% cpu. What the fuck?(double checked with lighthouse, would have screenies to confirm)
folfredo ( 2014-06-21 00:32:08 +0200 )editI only see a slight, hardly chance noticeable decrease of battery life, which I blame on 4G. However, I do notice the heat every now and then. It scares me. No pattern I would have noticed. Just sometimes it gets hot.
ossi1967 ( 2014-06-22 21:16:27 +0200 )editI noticed that mitakuuluu is using a lot of cpu when battery drain occurs. I turned mitakuuluu off for several days and battery drain doesn't appear anymore ! I tested it with and without 4G. As far as I remember the latest mitakuuluu update brought a automatic reconnection feature when connection with whatsapp server was lost. This battery drain isssue is already registered to the developper by another user.
fblm ( 2014-06-25 07:27:23 +0200 )editHas this issue already been filed on GitHub? Because I can't find? Or did this user wrote a Mail or something?
drummer12 ( 2014-06-25 09:42:42 +0200 )editI' ve seen a comment in openrepos.net. I didn't check GitHub.
fblm ( 2014-06-25 10:05:48 +0200 )editActually he closes all issues in the bugtracker which are related to high power consumption. I think it's because it could be due to reconnecting very often which he does because before it used to be stuck not beeing connected and he doesen't see an easy solution for not using much cpu AND beeing connected. Here's the closed issue: https://github.com/CODeRUS/mitakuuluu2/issues/141 And everytime some other guy makes a new he just references him to the closed one: https://github.com/CODeRUS/mitakuuluu2/issues/157https://github.com/CODeRUS/mitakuuluu2/issues/153https://github.com/CODeRUS/mitakuuluu/issues/248
folfredo ( 2014-06-25 10:49:31 +0200 )editI will file this issue later to the developper again !
fblm ( 2014-06-25 12:25:29 +0200 )editYou could activate logging and send him a log file. I wanted to do that however I couldn't send it since sending emails via my smtp doesen't work for my provider :(
folfredo ( 2014-06-25 12:35:01 +0200 )editAny problem ticket to this issue is closed at once by the developper !
fblm ( 2014-06-25 12:43:18 +0200 )edit@folfredo: According to the developer, he doesn't need any log files (stated in the ticket !). I propose That you to also open a ticket in GitHub.
fblm ( 2014-06-25 12:48:10 +0200 )editAfter several mails with the developer he reported that this bug is known to him and it will be fixed in any of the next updates !!!
fblm ( 2014-06-25 12:53:20 +0200 )editAwesome!!!!!!! I didn't know about that! (Since he stated somewhere that fixing this problem would raise connection errors again and he won't do anything about that). Do you have any idea about an eta? :D
folfredo ( 2014-06-25 13:08:17 +0200 )editI'm not sure, but I think he wrote that with the next release it will be fixed. I deleted the mails already. Let's see ;-) But I'm happy that he accepted this issue. After my complaint he opened the closed ticket again, so everybody can see that this issue is still present !
fblm ( 2014-06-25 14:27:40 +0200 )editFinally he's willing to make it public, that there is an issue with the battery. I really hope for this coming soon, today I disconnected Mitäkuulu whenever I didn't want to write a message. My battery level before doing so drained to 50% in the morning(wasn't fully charged before.) Well guess what, I'm only 2% down to 48%.
folfredo ( 2014-06-25 19:11:50 +0200 )editSame problems here: high temperature and battery consumption (battery lasts under 12h). Only 3G active; only Mitakuuluu open. I have been having the issue two consecutive days by now.
rochgs ( 2014-06-25 19:51:36 +0200 )editAgain around 5-10% battery drain in half an hour after spontaneous reboot/crash after trying to connect to 4G network.
I don't have Mitakuuluu installed and also top or Lighthouse didn't show any CPU consuming process. Also Flight mode didn't helped. After full reboot the battery drain stopped.
axaq ( 2014-06-26 00:51:44 +0200 )editdo you guys have facebook notifications polling turned on? are you automatically syncing any exchange email accounts? try disabling both and see if it helps.
droll ( 2014-06-26 02:32:32 +0200 )editI have the same problem after this lates update. I've noticed that my battery consumption is average over 1W all the time. I have 4G in use but if forced to 3G - same thing. WiFi is Cellular data is enabled. This is only one problem witch came with new relaease - bluetooth connectivity is now terrible, but that is an other issue...
