Hi there!

I have read that several people have successfully installed Threema on their Jolla. Is it possible to download it from the Threema webpage, install and run it without having the Google Play Store installed? How well is it working?

Thanks.

What works really well for me is Amazon's App Store. The advantage is that you get access to 100k approved apps through a trustworthy merchant, and you receive updates to apps also through the Amazon App Store. I bought Threema just with my Amazon account. If you download Threema from their webpage and pay with Paypal, you will need to check for updates manually. Another advantage of Amazon's App Store is the free app per day. Just search for "amazon app store" from your Jolla. That will take you to Amazon where you just download the APKfor the App Store. Then you sign in with your Amazon account. Done. If you wanna check out if your favourite Android App is in the Amazon App Store, just go to the Amazon page of your country (e.g. Amazon.co.uk) or global Amazon.com and search within the "Apps & Games".

Amazon is not an option for me. It is bad company and I try to stay away from them. There are other options to do your shopping online.

Regarding the updates. I get update notification through Threema and can download and install them through the app. Works very will I did several updated over the last view month. So no need for Amazon =)

Good to know! Question from my side: I'm on Uitukka, and cannot get any contact added to the Android side. I've added manually some contacts to Jolla people: don't show up to Android apps. I've installed 'GO Contacts/Dialer" and tried to add a contact manually since import from VCF fails: it complains that is not able to save the contact. Is this an issue of Uitukka or is there anything that I can do to have at least some contacts available to Android apps - such as Threema ?

I am not sure if I do understand your issue. Here it was no problem to assing contacts from my address book to a Threema contact. The only thing that did not work is the contact image, I do not see that in Threema.

After a reboot of the phone, the contacts became available to Android apps. :-)

After paying via Paypal you're able to Download the Threema apk as well as the QR Reader- Plugin. Installation doesn't cause any problems. After Installation you need to enter your serial number received in your confirmation mail. If you're using different devices you need to reset the GCM-Token for getting you're notification on the prefered device.

Update notifications work as well, they lead directly to the Download page threema.ch

As mentioned you won't get Vibration or sound notification, only if app is opened. In my case I also get notification in the event view if threema is closed. Sometimes Threema takes a few minutes to realise, that there is an internet connection. Restarting the app normally fixes it. If the mailing symbol beneath you're message is greyed out, you need to copy the message and send it again because sometimes the auto-resend doesn't work.

Hope I helped a little ;)

I downloaded the apk directly from the threema website and installed it manually. I also downloaded and installed the QR reader plugin from there. Threema app looks to be fully funtional without any google services, except that the messages are not pushed when the app is closed. You need to set the setting for polling inside Threema app.

Thanks for the information. I will try it today. How does it perform? Is it fully functional? Besides the push function.

It performs relyably, I think. Sending fotos from the gallery orby the camera works. I did not try sending videos or places. After polling, the new messages even show up in the Jolla's event view. ... however I did not notice any notification sound in that case. Edit: sending places needs Google play service.
