An option to disable the unlock/power button for unlocking would be really nice. I realized by having the phone in my pocket, it seems to often activate due to this button, draining battery a lot.
In the end, the button should only power off the phone when the phone is unlocked, not having any other functionality.

You can disable the unlocking using mcetool command-line utility.
To use it, you need to enable developer mode and instal it (pkconf install mce-tools (this may require you to devel-su ...)).
The actual command then is
mcetool --set-display-off-single-powerkey-press-actions=
No error should be output. You can check the settings by running
mcetool
Your power button shall do nothing from this moment on when your screen is locked and you press it once.
If you ever want to revert to the previous state, the settings would be:
mcetool --set-display-off-single-powerkey-press-actions=unblank

good option! but add something (obviously) that it still should be able to be used when the phone is powered off, to turn it on :-)

AL13N ( 2013-12-29 00:19:15 +0300 )edit@AL13N of course, that would be a good feature to keep the power button actually to turn off the phone ;-). @kelvan that's why I wrote "an option", I am aware that a lot of users are #1 used to the power button, and #2 alot of people having troubles unlocking by tapping (I don't have issues there - no idea why).
