Hmm... now the earpiece makes alot of distortion and it is very hard to hear and understand what is said in the phone !??? Build in loudspeaker works fine, and ext. headset / bluethooth also work fine . Is there a way via software to turn up/down only for the built-in earpiece ? Or is mine just broken :...(

Mine got worse day by day and I realized that earpiece collects metal powder that is everywhere at my work place. To be sure I blew in to it and quality got better. At the moment I was too busy to disasseble the phone and clean the earpiece properly so I gave it a bit of compressed air and it did the trick. Hope that metal powder is now nowhere else on the electronics.

Earpiece hole is quite big and I wouldn't be suprised if just pocket dirt would lead in to same.

I have the same problem on my jolla when is Used a earpiece with microphone. But, with "standard" without microphone, it works fine.

Most probably yours is just broken. Other people (me included) have had their device sent in for repair.

You should contact care: care@jolla.com

A blast from the past. I have exactly the same problem. Tried to clean the earpiece as pilq suggested but I could not reach the actual earpiece because I could not figure out how to remove the PCB. Has anyone successfully done it? Is it even worth trying or should I send my Jolla to electronic heaven?

Which device?, if it is a Jolla1, then I'm certain there are a post or two on stripping the device and replacing the earpiece speaker.

Here's one of the posts; https://together.jolla.com/question/152410/replacement-earpiece-fitting/ - I'm certain there's another giving more detail on the strip down.

And, here is the other link, this should help you @pichlo;
