There should be a way to tell the Gallery application not to look in certain folders (a hidden file for instance). Currently everything stored on the sdcard seems to get indexed, which means that all map tiles and album art stored on the sdcard will appear in the gallery. This is quite annoying as they clearly don't belong there.

There should be a way to flag some directory trees as non indexable for the Gallery. I suppose same goes for Music/Media.

As far as I know, this is not gallery itself, rather the service "tracker" (check out gnome tracker page). I'm not sure if possible, but it would be nice if there was a way to tell tracker to exclude directories for specific mime types...

I agree, my Gallery is flooded with images that don't belong there, particularly from the Android environment.
I factory reset my phone recently and did not restore my pictures and videos, but there are over 1700 images in the Gallery, of which less than 50 are pictures I have taken and downloaded. Pretty ridiculous!

feature already exists see https://together.jolla.com/question/5935/how-to-blacklist-directories-from-being-indexed-by-tracker/

you can either make folder invisible with a "." infront of name or add .nomedia 0Byte file to folder.

This will exclude indexing.

.nomedia file within folder that has images

.nomeda is wrong way! It will exclude entire SD card from track - and music files too. This will cause issues with access these files from players.

@kandelabra obviously you do not add that to the root of your sdcard but to the folders holding maptiles and other stuff you do not want to have indexed

  1. I keep nothing except music on SD card.
  2. Albums arts are located in the same folders as music.
