What features would you like to see in the future for Recovery Menu?

asked 2013-12-28 17:44:55 +0300

We have a handy new feature called the Recovery Menu in 1.0.2.5 that can be activated on start-up with a certain key combination. What features would you like to see in it in upcoming updates for it?

Right now the only real feature is a total factory reset. We can do better. What do you wish for?

Consider that some features can only be enabled if developer mode is enabled too.

Very important: - possibility to save (and restore) back-ups on microSD, PC and online/Jolla account!

@torcida totally agree, except the online part, for lack of privacy issues that would entail

Remote recovery!

SSH and SCP over WLAN. This will enable to use a hardware keyboard on PC and download packages, fixes from Internet or even copy data from and to PC. Also backups can be restored from remote terminal.

Therefore only a configuration page with 3 settings is necsarry (SSID, Wifi-Passwort and login password).

recovery menu already has netcat installed, so you can copy files over usbnet.

  • Option to expose the internal memory, and the SD, as bare USB disks, to the computer, allowing you full control over the partitions, and what's inside it.
  • Option to start the ssh server, allowing the manual recovery from a computer with an ssh+chroot
  • Option to backup the system, or the home to SD, or to owncloud
  • Option to selectively restore settings or parts of the system from a backup
  • Option to synchronize important settings with owncloud
  • Option to present a multi-boot screen on bootup
  • Option to install another OS (either through fastboot or scp) in an own btrfs subvolume, to be able to multi-boot
  • Option to perform a full hardware status check, to make sure that, if there are problems, they're in software
  • Option to customize the bootup screen splash from selecting a .tgz from SD or SSH in a standard format
