Whether or not the user is notified about new emails should be configurable. Some users want notifications while I and some others clearly don't.

I can think of two solutions:

  1. Email settings (possibly per account) to turn on/off notifications (maybe also configuring the time range — it seems that at the moment notifications start at 8am)
  2. In Settings → System → Sounds and feedback, make "vibration" configurable per notification category (or at least separately for email).

Per account would be nice. I don't want to be notified about work emails but I do want notifications on private emails.

I disabled the regular synchronization in Settings → Apps → E-Mail, setting it to Manual, hoping that it would disable notifications, but for some reason my phone still sometimes tells me about new mail. Why? Shouldn’t it leave the mail alone unless I actually start the Mail app?

@nomeata - Yes, if all auto syncs are off, notifications should only come when you sync manually and swipe the app away(i.e app is not in the foreground when sync ends)

@VDVsx: Maybe the settings did not take immediate effect; later I did not get any further notification. shrug

@nomeata - Oh yeah, there's a know bug in the scheduler, for example if you have sync every 30min and turn it off, it will sync one more time after and the then the switch will happen.
