Deezer app (android) asks for "Google play services" [answered]

Used the android Deezer app since I have my Jolla and everything worked fine until a few days ago. I updated the app (through Aptoide store) to version 4.4.1.23. After that when opening the app a message appears with the following content: "Get Google Play services: This app won't run wihtout Google Play services, which are missing from your phone".

When hitting "Get Google Play services" the app opens and navigating through the app is possible but there is no sound when playing music (although the app shows as the music is playing, but the sound is dead).

Anyone understanding what the problem is about? I would appreciate some information about this matter.

This is normal, and happening more and more often. Android apps are getting updates and even more of them are later related to Google services, disabling them from running in any AOSP like Alian Dalvik which is used on Jolla.

Workaround is to downgrade these apps to the last supported version which isn't yet tied to Google services.

Second workaround is to install the needed Google services on Jolla, which is possible but they re not officially available or supported.

In general, Google has a policy of getting more and more Android apps reliable on their services. This way they are trying to prevent the growth of AOSP phones in the markets, especially on the Asian markets. Luckily there are a lot of developers who keep up the work developing AOSP apps as well.

As an additional explanation for readers: In simple terms, "AOSP" refers to the part of Android that are, in fact, open source. (Remember when Google started to market Android as an open operating system?) Google Play Services is an additional layer that's not open at all. Licensing issues prevent Jolla, Amazon and others to include these parts of Android into their products (even though they are Android compatible). As simo stated, Google tries hard to make Google Play Services more and more important. Really a lot of attractive applications need them these days - it seems it's much easier for developers this way. So what have you learned? If it doesn't run on your Jolla, it needs parts of Android that aren't "open" at all.

I'd phrase the last paragraph as "In general, Google tries to bind customers to the Google ecosystem by luring app developers with "free" convenience API's, which are hard coupled to the Google Play Service, which in turn is not available to independent third-parties using AOSP, such as Jolla and many Asian developers." Google isn't the nice guy anymore.

What Deezer version will work? I've tried down to 4.4.2.6 without success.
