Any operation involving moving emails between IMAP folders was highly unreliable already in earlier versions (e.g. deleting mails, i.e. moving them to the trash never worked for me). With the new version there are now more severe problems ( my provider: mail.de):

  • Sent mails are not saved in the Sent folder. This used to work most of the times, now it does not work at all any more.
  • When selecting "Save mail as draft" the mail is not saved in the Draft folder, but just disappears.

Update 1: I can confirm that the problem does not exist with Gmail, but it does neither work for web.de nor for mail.de.

Update 2: deleting and recreating an account as suggested by drummer12 below may improve the behaviour for some accounts, however it creates other problems (see below)

I can confirm that sent mails are never stored in the IMAP "Sent" folder. I've never seen this working with my provider (bytecamp.net). This was the same with the previous versions and I really miss this feature.

But "Save as draft" is working in my case. The mail is really storred on the IMAP server.

everything is ok with gmail, draft is saved, sent mail appear in Sent folder. But i've noticed another bug=( if you save draft, then open it in Drafts folder, then send it, then you get:

1) email is sent successfully (you can see it in Sent folder)
2) mail in Drafts on GMail server is still there
3) mail in Drafts in email app on Jolla have disappeared, but if try to Update drafts folder, you get Problems with sync

I tried it once more and you are right: there is something wrong with the Draft folder:

1. Write an email and send it:
--> email is saved to the Sent folder :-)

 2. Write an email and save it as draft
--> email is saved to IMAP Draft folder :-)

 3. Goto Draft folder and send the mail now
--> email is sent but NOT copied to Sent folder
--> email is NOT deleted from IMAP Draft folder but from Jolla Draft folder
--> Draft folder update takes long and failes with syncronization error

Can you confirm this?

everything is same with me, but email is copied to Sent folder in 3rd step

Hi Jörg, I would recommend you to delete those accounts and recreate them. In my case I wasn't even able to sent Mails. But after deleting and recreating everything works fine. Mails are also stored in drafts. My provider is gmx.de so it should be the same with web.de as they are one group ;)

I tried it with the web.de account and you are right, the emails get saved now, BUT it seems in local folders only: suddenly I have 2 Draft folders and 2 Sent folders and I can see the saved emails. When I use another (more reliable) email client I cannot find the the emails in the respective IMAP folders (Sent and Drafts) on the server. The Trash folder is also doubled now with a local folder "Gelöschte Elemente" (Deleted Elements?), where all deleted emails get moved to. This local folder however does also not appear on the IMAP server. This seems to be an old problem (so this is maybe a duplicate): https://together.jolla.com/question/1466/e-mail-custom-trash-folder/

I tried it also with the mail.de account and it seems that it improves the behaviour. However, now I have the same problem as virgi26 above. The whole thing has been and is still very shaky. Unfortunately I still have to use an Android app for reliably sending and receiving emails on my Jolla.

I can confirm the doubling folders. I mainly work with my Jolla so it's not that hard for me. But I can understand your opinion and it would be better if the synced folders are selecteble and linked to the folders on the mail server.

@Jörg - What are the names of your drafts and sent folders in the server side ? (exact name)

VDVsx ( 2014-07-17 09:27:39 +0300 )edit

@VDVsx: web.de: "Entwurf" (Draft), "Papierkorb" (Trash), "Gesendet" (Sent), for some providers the Draft folder is also called "Entwürfe". As I wrote above, mail.de works for me now after re-installing the account, but I have the sync-problem that virgi26 above has.
