Display rarely does not turn off when locking screen using gesture

I had a lockup of the lock screen, while locking the phone by moving the finger down over the top screen edge.

My guess is that there is some sort of rare race condition there. The screen was stuck displaying the "lock" icon (as if the finger was not released) while no finger was touching the phone at that point.

Note that this has happened to me only twice so far, and it is easy to recover from it.
