After a system crash my device got stuck at the "jolla" boot image, and I had to take the battery out in order to get the device booting normally. Everything seemed fine after that, but then I noticed, that after this hard reboot:

  • no new photos are saved to the gallery (can't see them either if I plug the device to a computer)

  • I get notifications of new text messages, but I can't see them either thru Persons or Messages. My own sent messages aren't saved either.

However, I can see all the text messages and photos that were taken before the hard reboot. How can I fix this issue?

Could be this also if you "disk" has been full at some point: https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/

Currently my p28 has 6,0G available, so that might not be the issue I'm having. Also I haven't got the blinking green leds that is mentioned in the #30822 description.

But I don't know what just happened, but both new pictures and text messages started working again! So I lost only about half days messages and vacation pictures... (I guess this is a good time to do a backup.) Could this have been some sort of journaling problem in brtfs that the kernel fixed in the background?

Oh!! One thing I noticed after I sent the original question was that the clock was turned backwards about 67 hours. I'm not sure was it wrong right after the hard reboot, or later, but few hours before the hard reboot the time was still correct for sure.

This might be the reason?

Since if I now change the time -24 hours, the pictures won't be saved on the disk. So does the btrfs journal ignore the saves because of invalid (past time) timestamps of the files / transactions?

It seems that the filesystem was not corrupted, and the reason for the text messages and pictures not being saved was because the clock was suddenly turned -67 hours. You can replicate the issue by doing:

  1. Open the camera app and take a picture.

  2. Close the camera app and start the gallery app.

  3. Your picture should show up in the gallery app.

  4. Close the gallery app and start settings.

  5. From system go to time and date and change the date to previous date.

  6. Leave the settings in the background and start the camera app.

  7. Take a picture.

  8. Close the camera app and start the gallery app.

  9. Your last picture does not show up in the gallery app.

  10. Go to settings and set the day back to the current day.

Now, it would be really good to know why this happens? And it probably should not happen, because it has not so funny effects when you are for example travelling to another timezone...

All this doesn't explain my chrashes, but this question was more about the text messages and pictures not being saved, so I will edit the question to relate this.

Check that the system time and date are correct. For some reason filesystem changes (probably affects many other things than just text messages and pictures) are not saved if the time is changed backwards (maybe beyond the last transaction in the filesystem?).
