In this forum when questions, answers and comments refer to Jolla UX framework and its componenst, elements, screens, transitions, swipes etc. it would be beneficial that we name the things in the UI in similar fashion.

Update: Changed this How-to to a a community wiki for so as not no get any karma from this, but enabling it for anyone to contribute. Keep this question description just as an index of naming related answers here by UI/UX category so they are more easy to find.

@jjaone I agree, but I don't quite find the question in this?

This is more like a howto or suggestion on how we should name the things when we talk about Jolla UX. Different ways to name same things are confusing and generate a lot of secondary trafic in this site. Ofc I.could rewrite the title to read: 'Should we refer to Jolla UI elements consistently and using official naming conventions?' ;)

@PeterParker thanks for converting title to a question, now we can just start waiting all the 'yes we can' answers that start to pour in ;)

what is application-screen? we have lock-, home-, task-manager-, launcher-screen - swipes get you to ambience-chooser- and notification-screen...

@chemist Home screen is the ”task-manager screen' and App(lication) screen/page is the currently active application running 'fullscreen'. See the image linked in the question description, they are all there.. ;)

And. how did you manage to get the images shown? I tried to add an image tag and url to the original question, but they only show a link to the image.

jjaone: I tried to upload, without success, so I uploaded them to my personal homepage for embedding them

What is the official name for the dots in the top of the screen that show you where you are in the horizontal ordering of pages/levels?

Swipes & Pulls

  1. Swipes

    • Sliding your finger from outside the display area inside, they are called swipe.
    • As long as you do not lift the finger and go the way back outside it is called peek,
  2. Pulls

    • Sliding your finger over the glass from inside the display area they are called pull.
    • Left/Right pulls on covers are triggering a cover-action.
    • Up/down slides the main-screens (lock- home- launcher-screen)

Yes, and how about push, long-press, flip, (double) tap, and edge-swipe that some are using to differentiate from in-screen swipes..

foss4ever ( 2014-01-15 01:34:39 +0300 )edit

you push buttons you flip your phone you tap an item inside the display or even double-tap it let them call it edge-swipe for swipe but swipe does mean from the outside to the inside in terms of Jolla's gestures guide

See https://together.jolla.com/question/15615/suggestion-change-term-push-to-swipe-in-developer-environment/#post-id-15717 Basically the user-guide has the correct use of terminology.

yeah have seen it, well 80 people working at a company trying to get everything up to speed means there will be some outdated docs unwashed cups and snorring people in the hallway some nights.
