On my LTE network, voice calls are handled via CSFB and the phone falls back to 2G/3G. I had the chance (but missed the deadline) to enter a test run by the carrier on VoLTE. Only after I found I'd missed it, I started wondering if the Jolla phone would have supported VoLTE at all. Does anyone know?

Not as far as I know (there are barely networks supporting it yet), but Snapdragon 400 should be stacked with Qualcomm's 3rd gen LTE stuff and should support it, even if it is 2nd gen LTE hardware it is already implemented. Iirc Jolla is supporting a DL rate of up to 150Mbit/s which is QC's 3rd gen LTE.

that sounds like some marketing crap by apple... voice over wifi is nothing network related and is SIP or other VoIP solutions

in your view its marketing crap today, but tomorrow its reality :-) Its happening already! Benefits for consumers and operators. stay tuned and don't miss the train ! btw: forget SIP (skype and what not) - VoWi-Fi call with your phone number

I call with my phone number over wifi, my landline is VoIP for years now - my provider even supports VoIP on UMTS/LTE (not restricting it) so what is another marketing crap by Apple is just another marketing crap by Apple - remember facetime? "First phone with video-telephony over WLan and mobile networks" - I just pulled out my N900 and video-called a friend to tell him that we just do what Apple invented and is not even out yet - we were so impressed... VoIP is pretty old and common, and yes with LTE it is likely to come to mobilephones - but I highly doubt that carriers will give you access to it. And what Apple does is == if we pull all phone-calls to our servers we can earn even more money from the NSA. In the very unlikely event of trust issues you may use non-Apple solutions, out there for ages... (SIP is a protocol not a service). Welcome to the future of Apple that is already past in the current world.

Currently only CSFB is supported and to be honest I don't think there will be a VoLTE support anytime soon even if the chipset would support it.

Thx. So it wouldn't have been useful to join the VoLTE trial. (No need for it at the moment, I guess.)

The Swedish operators are currently preparing for both VoLTE and Wifi calling. According to an article (in Swedish)last week, this will be reality during 2015. http://computersweden.idg.se/2.2683/1.602323/snabbare-och-battre-snack-i-4g

Interview with Nokia Networks in Sweden . Seems like 2015 is the year that VoLTE will be started. More info is expected at MWC in less than month. Tele2 Sweden officially states that they plan to roll out VoLTE this year. The article further states that VoLTE already has been rolled out in Hong Kong (CSK, 3, PCCW, Smartone), South Korea (SK Telecom, KT), Japan (Docomo), and Telenor Danmank. AT&T and Verizon has started in some countries where they own a network.

@tigeli providers starting VoLTE, Vodafone Germany reported activation 2 days ago. I know Jolla is not about being the first but wouldn't it be a good OEM selling point to have VoLTE?

o2 / ePlus have it prepared since 2014 but not yet in active marketing due to a lack of hardware out there probably. Not that Jolla would make a big dent but is this really not at all on the roadmap?

I currently use my 808 for calling because the voice quality on my Jolla is not good enough. Might be the silent speaker though...
