I have downloaded an APK and it is in Settings->System->Transfers
From reading this site and other guides, I should be able to just click it, and it will install?
I have installed and uninstall the Android support app and restarted the device a few times but have had no luck installing the APK.
Suggestions?

I think you need to turn the Alien Dalvik by running some Android application from Store or from terminal and then try to install apk.
https://together.jolla.com/question/61240/install-of-apk-packages-fails-with-fresh-installed-android-runtime/ describes "local apk installation problems", too. And @Rin Kaenbyou commented, that installing "Aptoide Appstore" helps in some cases.
This might trigger "turning on Alien Dalvik".

So now the Android support is installed (it is mandatory)? If so go to /home/nemo/Downloads (or /home/nemo/Documents, don't remember) and look for your apk file using File Browser (jolla store). Select your apk and then from the pulley menu select install. If the file is not corrupted it should install. You could try other apk files to test, or you could use Aptoide store to install some Android apps.

spetsnaz ( 2014-09-05 12:50:40 +0300 )editSometimes the android applications will not work on Jolla (either not compatible with our device either because Jolla uses an "emulator"). If you have problems only with this application just search for it in Aptoide store or Amazon store or any other android store. Sometimes a different version works. If this doesn't help you could post here what kind of application you have trouble with and maybe Jolla will look at it. (or you can just use a different android application that does the same thing if possible)
