Hi Fella's,

I'm leaving the boat. I bought a Jolla phone to support the captains at Jolla Oy. Craved for certain features which never materialized and finally decided to sell my device.

Since I've never used my lovely white phone as a phone (since I require some features which simply aren't there yet), I felt it better that another person makes use of it, the way it should.

It was nice being here. But unfortunately I'm not a programmer myself nor am I able to create wonderful hardware projects, like other more talented sailors in these waters.

I truly wish Jolla Oy and all other sailors the very best...

BTW. My device's IMEI is registered to me. Can it be transfered to the new owner? Or does it automatically transfer whenever the new owner registers an account?

So long and farewell.

@2Ti Voicemail notifications for example :) Not just SMS, not used by all operators, but enhanced notifications, asking by many since january : https://together.jolla.com/question/8779/no-notification-when-new-voicemail/#post-id-17093

Indeed, many very basic features are missing ... and connectivity is still a WIP. I want to leave desperately, as it's so frustrating and under featured, but on the other hand I can't stand iOS or Android and my N9 has bricked itself after I stopped using it.

Why do all these people who don't want to use their Jolla anymore feel the need to tell everyone else on TJC about that? I for one really don't care.

it's important to those planning future developments to know why people are opting out. If the next upgrade doesnt give us a decent browser then I'm out too.

"it's important to those planning future developments to know why people are opting out"

You have to know that I'm a self-employed IT-technician. Clients call me for interventions. So I have both their addresses and telnos in my smartphone. Because that way I know who's calling and secondly I can drive to them without hassle because smartphones are usually also capable navigation-tools. I bought the basis of this database from my former employer years ago. So I'm reluctant to use clouds. I think that if Google/MSFT or Apple want me to store my clients on their servers then I want money for that database (just as I had to pay for it myself)... and then in that process they can buy my entire business with it.

1) I need automatic call recording. If you really want to know why then I'll explain it here as well. --> I asked the creator o/t Harmatan (N9) version of callrecorder if he has any plans to port it to Sailfish. Never got a reply. I think the interest to port or continue that program is gone

2) I have over 700 contacts (with all info like addresses etc...). As explained above this is my personal clients-database. It's a real hassle to continuously remove all contacts in the phone, concatenate a single .VCF-file in Office Outlook and transfer it to the phone manually and import it. Especially since I have easy to use syncing solutions for both my Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGS3) and Nokia 808PureView. I asked the developer of My Phone Explorer if they'd be interested to make it compatible with Sailfish. Again with no response.

So my current workflow to ease that process is to sync my Android device locally, then export my SGS3-contacts to a single VCF-file, beam it to the Jolla phone and import that list. But that requires an Android device at hand... I might as well ditch the Jolla then and just keep the SGS3.

So due to the low response or interest in Sailfish OS from developers for key-ingredients in my workflow I decided to sell my device. I can better spend my money on a newer mid-range Android device that syncs flawless with e.g. MPE and that can record calls depending o/t model and/or brand.

Especially since my main device (Nokia 808PV) still caters for all my needs (and more). My plan now is to sell both the SGS3 and Jolla phone and invest in a newer Android device. After investigation it seems the SGS4 can be tweaked fairly easy to enable call-recording and it's nowadays a nice upgrade from my aging SGS3 without breaking the bank.

So there you have it. My reasons to jump ship and my plans for the near future.

Regards

Thank you @manut for taking the time to detail your frustrations. I suffer from the same syncing issue although for other reasons. I'm a Mac user and don't use Google's or Apple's cloud but one from a small Swiss provider. Unfortunately only the big brand names are supported, i.e. connect your Google account. Support for CardDav should be on it's way though. The same goes for poor support for syncing content onto and off of the Mac. So far the issues are all small enough and have a workaround that's accessible to not make me pull my hair out. I also remember what the other platforms were like when they were starting and prefer the approach Jolla has to development, so I'm willing to give them some more time to get out of beta (I know they claim to be but clearly they're not). Especially given how regularly software updates are being pushed.

I forgot to mention that My phone Explorer (AKA MPE) is a known Android sync-solution for Windows PC's. It was originally created for advanced Sony-Ericsson feature-phones. It has been evolved into an Android tool. It can sync with various PIM's including MSFT Office outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird (or used as a stand-alone system). It also has the ability to up/download files to your phone. So it's a total solution for syncing, backup and data-transfer to/from phone.

It works with USB, bluetooth and WiFi. I think this one o/t best thought out and nicest PIM-syncing tools on Windows. It looks very simple but it works just great IMHO. If the Jolla people ever want to create a sync-tool then I suggest they seriously look at MPE and investigate how works.

Cheers

I sold my 1st Jolla earlier this year. I now have another one and upon signing back into my original Jolla account, I noticed the details of the 1st one had been removed and the new one registered, so I would say it occurs when the new owner creates a Jolla account with your old phone, so yes, I think you were right in the first place @manut
