The recently called contacts list doesn't show any information about the type of number called. When calling a contact from this list it's unclear which number from a contact you're about to call. This could be solved with introducing some icons for mobile, work, home, etc.

Another possibility would be to open a context menu containing all numbers for that contact (if there is more than one available, of course), rather than dialling the historical number directly.

Great idea!

disagree about context menu, because i have (and probably others) all numbers in their phonebook. i vote for option "show context menu if multiple numbers" in recent calls

Perhaps context menu on long press, because getting a menu every time I try to call from call log would be frustrating as I would almost always get the menu since almost all my contacts have multiple numbers.

@Mohjive: there is already a context menu on long-press, for the call log. Are you suggesting that alternative numbers should be added to that menu? Perhaps we could add a 'Use other number' option, that when selected allows you to choose one of the other numbers for that contact.

There is the context menu showing the type of number in the recent communications list of People application already. This list is located between the favourite contacts and the grid of initial letters.Tapping and holding an time in the comms list shows all different phone numbers of that contact. A similar approach is obviously an option for the call history as it is consistent. However, there is another problem with call history which may require the use of the context menu in a different way: see https://together.jolla.com/question/297/confirm-calling-from-call-list-to-prevent-pocket-calls/.

My proposal for solving both of these issues would be that a (quick) tap on an item in call history would not place a call immediately but open the contact card, which then shows all of the numbers and their types, and also gives the option to choose between making a call and sending a message. A phone call initiated from the call history would then require two taps instead of one (currently).

This is the way it should be, quick tap to open contact card. It would prevent some accidental calls also.

@virmajor: Your post is not an answer, it is a comment. Sighs.

i actually prefer how the N900 handled it. tap on the entry in the call log and it shows you the contact card of the caller. all the phone numbers, emails, etc are listed but the number that was used to call you (for that call log entry) is highlighted in a different colour.
