One day with my Jolla, and I'm unable to update nor install applications, because of the slow network I suppose. Would it be possible to implement a solution where you can download the applications from/through your Jolla account to your PC and then load it to your phone? This will be absolutely necessary in most of Africa where 256kbps LAN/wifi/ADSL is a blessing and most of us are still using 2G!

thanks, N

While technically it shouldn't be a problem to move a installable package to the phone and install it from there, I'm not aware of a documented way to download the file in the first place. (There has to be, somehow. The question is if it's worth the hassle.)

I doubt if your problems are due to a low download rate. Applications are comparatively small in size usually, aren't they? Even on 2G it should work, of course slow. And of course, as you mention 256kb wifi - wireless lan is always the better option.

Well Ive been trying to install since last night...from the 2G and now on office Wifi. It's been trying to install Maps for 2h now, unsucessfully. I'm going back to 2G to see, maybe something wrong with the wifi? I can browse with no it really puzzles me. And usually this wifi is relatively fast...going up to 1Mbps...

As a workaround: some of the applications available on the Jolla Store are also available on OpenRepos:

You can download applications from there to your computer first, and then move them to your phone to install.

Have you been able to download any software from the store so far? Maps may be one of the bigger applications in terms of download size, so just to check and make sure there's no other issue, maybe try something smaller instead. Maybe a simple file browser or such?

Other possible issue that maybe cause trouble: No Jolla account on your phone?

Yup I went of 2G, closed everything, went back on the wifi and now i'm installing one at a time. Succeeded with the clock. Jolla should think of this for the future African customers...they may not have my patience and could be a good idea to preload the Jolla essentials
