Usecase: I've got a customer whose personnel call me from different extensions. But still, it's the same company. I have added some of the contacts to my phone (with company name), but not all. So sometimes when I get a call, I can see the name of the caller, sometimes I only see the phone number. So it really would be nice, if my Jolla would display the company name (and extension) if I get a call from any unknown extension of the company. After all, the phone numbers only differ in the last 3 or 4 digits. The information could be easily deducted from the address book. This would be a really nice feature, wouldn't it?

great idea.

but i think it should be configurable with a "contact" for each company, to set up the wildcards 555 1234*.

company detail of real contacts (persons) could filled in automatically with that.

maybe there should be a manual and an automatic mode for this? because for me the strength of it would lie in the fact, that it should work without any extra configuration! On the other hand, if people like to be able to configure it manually - why not?

What about searching for a delimiter such as a # or blank between number and extension? This way you are independent of the count of the extension's digits.

The phone app should be enhanced to recognise this syntax. It should then show the name of the company and the contact's extension in case a contact's phone number is found formatted this way.

how do other devices handle a special char inside a phone number?

these days a lot of people sync their contacts between different devices/os, so the solution must be compatible to other OS's

Good point. Then replace # with a blank or a dash which is usually no problem at all.

Brilliant idea. How about marking a phone book entry as company and adding a person contact as detail? The contacts app should also be upgraded with a view by companies. SailfishOS could have the potential of getting a professional alternative to what was blackberry.

Would be great to add a number with a wildcard to some contact so it'll match all the numbers in the scope of the wildcard. Great for hospitals and administrative services.
