Browser: Disable Anonymous Usage Collection [answered]

Hello from India! Got my new Jolla recently, and have been pretty impressed and happy with it so far. A great start by Jolla, and hope you do well in the future too.
Apart from some quirks which hopefully will be fixed, I've got one issue that really bugs me.
When I used the browser the first time, I had to accept its terms and condition. And one of the terms stated in it was that the browser would collect anonymous usage stat and send it to Jolla; but this could be disabled in browser settings.
I however cant find this option in browser setting. So how do I disable it?
The major reason I opted for Jolla was because it didnt run Android or other privacy invasive OS / browser. Hope I wasnt wrong ... Please advice.
I did a factory reset to take a screenshot of the browser terms, but it didn't appear again. The clause that caught my attention was very similar to the one included in the maps terms, specifically -
Improvements of service. The application will collect anonymous data during usage, including but not limited to GPS data and mobile connectivity. This information does not contain any unique identifiers to your device, the application or you personally. This information is used to increase the accuracy of the traffic related Service, the maps, the application and for creating related new services. The collection of anonymous data can be disabled from the settings menu in the application.
The above is a clause from the maps TOS, and the browser TOS had a very similar clause too - I remember because I got irritated when I saw it and only accepted the TOS because the clause mentioned that this could be disabled. And the first thing I did after accepting the TOS was to go to settings to disable it. (Again, this is the stock Jolla browser - it came pre-installed with the phone - and not some browser I installed from any store).
What terms and service agreement are you talking about? I don't think the Sailfish browser has it's own terms agreement.

One of the terms is what I mentioned in the question. I remember it because I was looking for such terms, and the first thing I did after accepting it was to go to settings to disable any data collection and transfer.
Maybe they had to add the terms to comply with indian law and / or regulatory requirement?
sifartech ( 2014-10-05 22:34:04 +0300 )edit@sifartech The software in Jolla phones sold in India is same as in the rest of the world, Jolla does not collect any data through the browser. Here is the initial screen of the browser: screenshot and after selecting the tabs-button I can start browsing without accepting any terms.
tigeli ( 2014-10-06 00:40:05 +0300 )edit@tigeli The laws and regulations though are different in each country, and Jolla may have to modify the software and / or disclose more information to comply with it. Note this clause of the Jolla TOS - "Note that additional terms might apply to certain services (“Service-specific Terms”). In such cases you will be asked to approve the Service-specific Terms before you can use the service in question."
