My only disappointment with the Jolla Smartphone so far has been the poor speaker.

I've missed many calls because I couldn't hear the phone ring when I stepped out of the room or am far from the phone. Can somebody suggest some LOUD ringtones? And any hacks to increase the speaker volume beyond the maximum volume setting?

Considering that the human hearing is best around 1000 Hz, I'd suppose using some tone around that frequency. I personally use a Chiptune as my ringtone (Martin Galway - Wizball).

Increasing the volume beyond the maximum will probably only result in distorted noise, I guess. Anyway, when creating your ringtone, consider normalizing it or even use levelling to the maximum. Can be done with the excellent free audio editor Audacity.

"I've missed many calls because I couldn't hear the phone ring [...]" - Same Problem here and we're not alone!!

So if you want better loudspeakers (and general better HW) in the next Jolla please vote for this -> https://together.jolla.com/question/19564/jolla-2nd-device-hw-suggestions/#post-id-55884

Some say that the ears of most people are tuned in to the sound of coins landing... It's worth trying.

Have you tried to modify your ambience? Go to Gallery > Ambience > and select your current ambience and there you can adjust the ringtone volume for that ambience. You have two places where you can adjust ringtone volume, the other one is from settings.

Is that true? I thought only the "Default ringtone volume" (different from the current ringtone volume) could be changed from "Settings"...

@drcouzelis Thanks for the tip. It is set to the maximum volume at both places. And still not loud enough.

These two settings are not "cumulative". When you're using a favorited ambience, the ambience ringtone setting overrides the default volume setting. (See the answer in this question).
