It would be nice if there could be integrated support for GNU social.

GNU social is web software you can use to run your own social network, either privately or publicly.

  • The software supports both single-user and community modes and can be used in an intranet environment or as part of the wider GNU social federated social network.
  • The software has been used in production environments for over five years and is very stable. GNU social also easily communicates with other GNU social servers, and traditional social networks such as Twitter.
  • Because GNU social is written in the de-facto web standards of PHP and MySQL, it runs virtually anywhere you can run a common piece of web software, such as WordPress or Drupal.
  • And because GNU social is part of the GNU project, it's 100% free software, with no malicious features, spyware or advertising.

I voted for this because I support GNU Social; I'm not sure about integrated support, though. I'd rather have plugins for social services and sharing that can be written by 3rd party developers and distributed through the official store.

I voted this up too, but would an app-request be a better option, or would you like to suggest this as an integrated feature (e.g. as an account)?

I'd want it to be possible to add a GNU social account, so the feeds can show up like Twitter or Facebook feeds in the Events screen. Whether this is done by first or third party plugins doesn't really matter to me.

Could also be an app request, I suppose, but that would be for more advanced features than simply checking the latest updates.

As an account, it might be best for Jolla to work with, and in that case it might take some time (normal priorizing), of course depending on the vote count too :) But yes, I got the idea what you're suggesting, and supporting it - that would be a great add

I wonder if the Jolla could run its own instance of GNU social as well. (I haven't looked into its dependencies, if any.) Maybe @Nieldk wants to give it a try?
