Hi!

As you may know, on October 26 there will be timezone change in Russia. Will new tzdata be included in update 9? I know that here in Russia we have not so big Jolla community, but it also will be useful for travellers from entire world...

Not sure I understand what you are asking for regarding timezone change. Could you explain?

F.ex. right now Moscow time is GMT +4 and there is no DST. From October 26 Moscow time will be GMT +3 and no DST. As far as I know patch for this is already released for Windows and Linux.

Right, voting up. Maybe too late for update 9 though.

You can update time zone database directly on your Jolla phone with the Official IANA time zone date (tzdata).

Enter in developer mode (and devel-su), and runs these commandes:

# Check before update of time zone
[root@Jolla install]# export TZ="Europe/Moscow"; date -d "2014-10-27 12:00:00" -R

Result:

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 12:00:00 +0400  <== not good

Update the tz database on your Jolla phone: # Download the tzdata archive [root@Jolla install]# curl http://www.iana.org/time-zones/repository/releases/tzdata2014h.tar.gz > tzdata2014h.tar.gz

# Uncompress in tzdata directory
[root@Jolla install]# mkdir tzdata && tar xfz tzdata2014h.tar.gz -C tzdata

# Update the Europa zone (include Russia)
[root@Jolla install]# zic tzdata/europe

# Check after update
[root@Jolla install]# export TZ="Europe/Moscow"; date -d "2014-10-27 12:00:00" -R

Result:

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 12:00:00 +0300  <= better

Thanks for reminding us, we have almost missed it. Let's see if we can squeeze it into update9 (no guarantee though).

Jolla coming to Russia with incorrect timezone?

Unfortunately, yes. Not the best first experience, I admit - to see your freshly bought phone showing you wrong time but there's nothing that can be done about it at this point. Update 10 will fix it.

... And this is correct. So the issue is fixed.

Ah, yes! Sorry, entangled with timezone, because set it manually to the wrong timezone while waiting for fix. Thank`s Wickedsten, and thank you Jolla team.

What about the timezone update? Maybe it could be a hotfix?

It didn't make it into update9, you will have to adjust the time manually on Sunday. Sorry about it. It will be in update10 for sure.

Ok, so, for a workaround, what is better: to update tzdata, as written above or just set another timezone with +3 and wait for update10?

If it were that easy, it would've been part of update9. Please update the time manually and wait for update10. Upgrade of tzdata isn't enough - timed configuration needs to be rebuilt too and that's quite a traumatic experience for an unprepared person. Not to mention missing translations for the new timezones and a few UI glitches that testing has discovered.

Ok, thank you!
