My device has the following problem. I was on 1.0.8.19 and wanted to update to 1.0.8.21, when I recognized that on the product information page in the settings app the version of SailfishOS is "unknown version". On the update page there is no number after the word "version". When I check for updates, it always tells me my system is up-to-date.

So, I tried to update via terminal as told in this answer to a similar problem.

The output of the command ssu re 1.0.8.21 was Changing release from 1.0.8.19 to 1.0.8.21. Now, after the update via terminal the same command says Changing release from 1.0.8.21 to 1.0.8.21. Thus, I guess my system is actually up-to-date now, isn't it?

But on the system information and the update page in the settings app the version is still unknown. I guess I will run in the same problem when the next update is released.

The same thing happened to me. In addition I did not have "version" command so I could not run "version --dup". To solve this I used:

pkcon refresh
pkcon update
ssu re 1.0.8.21
pkcon install sailfish-version
version --dup
reboot

I don’t know if all those commands are required but this did the trick for me and now I have version information in "About" and shellshock bug is not present - so I suppose my device is really up to date.

Edit: When I think about it probably only command required to fix "Unknown version" and later allowing to update by GUI is "pkcon install sailfish-version". Probably when checking updates it was also sending "Unknown version" so it did not find any new versions.

Great, this fixed it. The version command was also missing on my device. Thank you!

I had a simial issue trying to update from 1.0.8.21 to 1.1.1.27. If I tried to find updates my Jolla said it was already up to date, although it clearly wasn't. In the device info of the setting the current version number was also missing. After I the steps above and the reboot my Jolla recognized the update to 1.1.1.27 and the update went without a hitch. Thanks for these steps!
