Current Behaviour:
User removes charger cable from Jolla smartphone. The phone display turns on.

Feature Request:
When the charger state changes from 'charging' to 'discharging' (indicating either the user has removed the charging cable or cut the power to the charger) the phone should (1) sound an auditory alert and (2) display an alert message that reminds the user to switch of the charger to save power.

The old Nokia phones had this feature that I loved - whenever you would remove the charger cable from the phone, it would remind you to switch off the charger so that you don't waste power. (Yes, I know chargers use negligible power, but it was small things like these that made the Nokia brand great, and Jolla should follow in its footstep too.)

Four billion dollars worth of energy is wasted with plugged in devices and chargers is an interesting read ...

If this is implemented, please make it optional. If you've ever used a Nokia phone with a bicycle powered charger every time you stop or cycle slower than the phone's minimum charge level you used to get a warning about the charger, an annoying popup and a beep.

It was one of the things I hated most about Nokia phones. The Jolla's lack of nagging is bliss by comparison.

@aegis: Haha, that's an interesting use case I haven't heard of before - bicycle powered charging! Actually, as my idea suggests, the alert will be displayed only when the charger cable is unplugged / removed. And not when Jolla detects low / no power. Also, unlike you, I actually do miss that alert on low / no power when charging, on my Jolla - third world and developing nations often face power cuts and the phone alert often reminded us to switch to a different power source (like to a computer UPS) for charging the phones.

I don't think you can tell the difference between the cable being physically removed and there being no power unfortunately.

Look up the Nokia Dc14 at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-DC-14-Charger-discontinued-manufacturer/dp/B00475BGHA

I've had a couple of those which are cheap and cheerful but have a habit of burning out downhill.

For smartphone charging you really need a hub generator and a better USB adaptor like a USB-Werk which also includes a buffer battery which charges inline so that if you stop your phone still charges. That avoids the annoying popups too. See http://www.bumm.de/produkte/e-werk-usb-werk.html

I did a 5 day tour during the summer navigating with my Jolla and never ran out of power and never needed a power outlet. If anything I was getting more annoyed by having the 100% charged beep beep during the afternoon forcing me to disconnect from charging.

The Nokia phones could detect when the charger cable was removed, so I think it can be done. (Thanks for the link - I learnt something new!)

@sifartech you are misunderstanding how this works, Nokia phones did not recognize if the cable was removed, they recognize if it is changing state from charging to discharging. Pull the plug off the wall and keep the cable attached to the phone (will take a couple of seconds) -> same behavior.
