while copying text from one app to another it would be nice to have a swipe to access the recently accessed app

while one is to minimize the app and the other to switch with recently opened apps

swiping from the left will minimize it and swiping from the right will take you to the recently opened application

for doing this a swipe manger should be kept to get the left and right swipng to be defined.. it could be inside the settings menu..

I suggest keeping all the apps you frequently use open. They don't take much system resources when they're minimized. Another option is to use the quick bar app available on the store that provides a small menu for recently opened apps. In my opinion, the current system is more than enough although I do agree that the left and right swipes on home screen could have some better usage than the ambience switcher.

i'm saying that the if you are in the browser and you selected some text. you want to quickly go into notes app which you have opened previously. by just swiping you'll go to the note app without seeing the homescreen

There aren't really any free gestures for that. Left and right swipe gestures are both reserved for minimizing the app. This way it doesn't matter whether the user is left or right handed; the user can use which ever gesture is easier for them to access.

One of SailfishOS main design principles is the ability to use the device with one hand effectively, regardless of its size. Your suggestion would undermine that. Even if you had the ability to choose which side performs the action, it would create unnecessary confusion. It should not rely on multitouch gestures either for the reasons stated above and this.

but still thats why there is need to be a swipe manager where we can handle and define the swiping..

As I stated in my answer, it would create unnecessary confusion, especially among the non-tech-savvy. Having a swipe manager would make the user experience unintuitive. If you want to copy-paste between apps, it's just copy - swipe to home - choose another app - paste. It's not that much harder.

By the way swipe from the top is the same gesture than swipes from the side if you don't change it in the settings.

Yes, that's true

@Toxip, I disagree with your answer. If this feature was optional and off by default, it wouldn't make the user experience

1) any worse when using only one hand (you still could have one of the side-swipes, maybe the more comfortable one, for going to home screen, and the other one for switching between two most recent apps)

2) more confusing (by default it would behave just like it does now)

3) left-right-biased (you could choose which side does which).

So if you don't turn it on, you can use the phone exactly as you do now. And if you do turn it on, you can still use the phone exactly as you do now (as I believe users generally go to home screen always from the same edge of the screen, at least I do), but you have the extra option to switch straight to the previous app from the other edge.

@Ghost, I agree with your suggestion. However, it's a duplicate: https://together.jolla.com/question/16455/edge-gesture-app-swap/
