When I get to work in the morning, I have to fill in a date card for my parking permit. If I could just press the side button to get the time and date, that would be superb. As it is, I've got to take off my glove in the cold, unlock the phone and then pull down slightly to get the date.

Edit @stezz: Judging by comments what is shown on lock screen should be configurable.

Yeah, somewhere near the clock would be perfect!

Also battery and network status would be nice to see on lock screen, now they are "hidden".

Also add the current wifi network name to that list.

Can you not remember the N9 in situations like this?

My 2 cents: Time is something that changes every minute so it is important info that you have to have on lock screen. Date is something that changes every 24 hrs. So it is not vital info. i.e. when you wake up you can just check the calendar once and you'll be good for the whole day.

Meanwhile there are multiple Patches (requiring Patchmanager to apply them) available at OpenRepos.net (easily installable via Storeman or Warehouse) and / or from Patchmanager 2.0's web-catalog, which nicely allow to configure what is displayed on the lockscreen.

My personal favorite is Lockscreen analog clock (its analog clock is optional and it also can be used to display an empty lockscreen) from the aforementioned web-catalog.

Wow. This is from Christmas eve 2013. :)

Anyway, I am missing ICE contact information from the lock screen. I believe android has a special contact that ambulance crew can read even from locked device.

Yeah, I considered closing it, hence doing a "last call".

Then the Patch Devicelock faith text is for you.

Close it?, yep, I thought the same, three quarters of the commentary on this screen are from people who no longer work for Jolla or users who no longer use a Jolla phone.

This is one of many examples of how questions get largely ignored and shoved by the wayside. 588 votes over 5 years and f**k all has happened. So much for DOING IT TOGETHER - which to me, has become laughable, as a few members of the community have already made patches to quench the thirst of other users, but what notice has HQ taken?, little to none. tis all about form over function - so, yeah, close it, what a waste of fkin time and space - this is of course, just my opinion.

... which I fully share.

Yes, it would be so easy for Jolla to integrate some elements of famous Patches into the UI (i.e. lipstick). But over time it has become obvious that they just don't.
OTOH, for users really wanting a different lockscreen, these solutions exist and work.

I am the OP, and I still use a Jolla 1, and yes, I've also missed the ICE contact from the front screen... actually the ideal way for someone to get the phone back to me when lost. And yes, I still use the phone with gloves (but the time and date is still displayed on the latest version, so that's fine)

As to closing the call... well... like was mentioned, this is years ago and is probably fine, because the original question received the votes, and was, indeed done. Time/Date on the phone on pressing the power button. So, 588 votes... and it happened!

As to the extra added by Stezz, of making the whole screen configurable... it was explained somewhere (possibly in a duplicate post, or someone asked that question elsewhere) as to what it would mean, programatically, to make this happen... and once I understood the mechanisms, it was obvious why that wasn't going to be a reality, at least until things get much better for Jolla than they are at present.

With the latest update i find that I miss the empty lock screen, however others love having the date/time visible, so can this be a configurable option (ie whether or not to have the date and time visible)?

Note Sailfish 2.0 Homescreen will display date information and status bar (battery, signal, etc.).

There is no need for it http://jaakkoroppola.blogspot.fi/2014/11/why-status-bar-has-to-go.html

Think about it

Agree with Jaakko's points. We don't show status bar when apps are open.

As my first post, i would like to suggest one improvement for lock screen.

What do you think about possibility to put application in "pin to lock screen mode"? When you do a long press on cover view, instead of showing just "X" for closing application, pin icon is shown also (top of cover). When you click on this pin icon, cover of application is not shown in cover view any more, but only on lock screen. And in this state, user is able to only see cover, not able to open app at all, until un-pin it.

As an example, I would like to see weather app all the time, but only in cover mode. Why should I unlock phone, go to app view. Also, one space in app mode is used without need for that.

Development of "widget" applications will be just related to developing of nice cover view.

What do you think about this idea?

Possibility to show covers on lock screen would be great. But showing them only on the lock screen is not important.

I'm dreaming but a conky on the lock screen should be definitively unlike, it's not realy userfriendly to configure but as long as we can share configuration files, it should be OK for everyone :D

I have some ideas about the lockscreen that I would like to share here.

Even if the device now returns to the last used application if it is woken up within a time interval (don't remember number of seconds), the notifications/lock screen could be utilized to have a button or simple widget that is like a shortcut to maximize the last shown application. THAT would be a useful thing to have. It would be much faster and efficient than "Swipe down, ehm, where is it now, hmm, there it is, tap".

If this is a sort of a "feed screen", then there is hopefully some api for it to be used by the apps. For instance, media player applications could implement scrolling of the current song/artist name there.

A lot of system properties could possibly enable short information texts for this screen. For instance, the IP-adress would be nice to have there (but customizable of course, enable/disable option in the "about device" or something like that).

Even applications should be able to have something customizable to be enabled for viewing there. If it is customizable by the user, it won't be cluttered down (unless user want to clutter things down). Maybe, they could call this the "activity screen" or something like that with certain rules to it so that it doesn't become a cluttered and disorderly android widget screen. It should be part of the whole application concept, so that an application has:

  • full screen view
  • cover page view
  • announcement / information field on "activity screen" (with possibility to turn this on or off per application).

See what I mean?

Then also, if course something should be invented for differentiating left and right swipes, not only for the now called lock screen but also for the applications screen. There could probably be other interesting uses besides choosing the ambience I think. Why not (optionally) integrating the calendar application on one of those swipes (instead of having it launched as any other application). Alarm stuff could be integrated on such a swipe as well.

Here is actually another possibility for this screen that I just came up with, that would add something that I really miss. If the user on this lock screen would be able to create application groups (or folders), then if one of these groups is selected, let's say for example you click the "media apps" icon. Then the launch screen(s) could then instead get populated with the launcher icons for what that the user has placed under that category. There should be a default 'All' category of course that would make the launcher screen show everything like today.

How about that people? Jolla?

Moved here from https://together.jolla.com/question/18350/where-do-you-want-to-have-the-current-date-info-to-be-visible-by-default/ Lock screen would be one optional location for this, so the answer suits here as well. :

I suggest a costomizable location for a customizible date/time/info -bar. The settings to select the location and tune the bar would be under:

  • Settings -> Customization -> Date/Time bar -> location.
    • location selections: Home screen top/bottom, Events screen top/bottom, Lock screen top/bottom
    • currently reserved locations would be unselectable (grey)
  • Below the location setting, switches to select the visible items and, with a hold gesture, their size.
    • Visibility selections: Date, Time, Battery status, Mobile network status, WLAN status, Bluetooth status, Airplane mode status, NFC status Silent mode status & pulley menu: select all, hide all
  • (Additionally, there might be a pull gesture on the bar to adjust screen brigtness, just pulling left/right on top of the bar. This is not a must, and I've presented this feature also to a customizable switch bar earlier.)

(I'm a great fan of customization, and I've presented adding this menu in some of my earlier posts too )

@jukey yes the way you posted that as a real question to ask the optimal / default place for date info is good way to focus on only that, and let ppl Answer by their preferred location to show. This is IMO how this question here could have been asked in the first place. Also, these questions can happily co-exist here.. they are not duplicates cause they approach the issue from different angle ..
