Telnet client is useful for troubleshooting, would it be included in some common net tools rpm? Couldn't readily find it.

Another cmdline tool I miss is whois.

Yea, dig of course. Almost assumed it to be there :)

If the bootloader has a telnet server it would be just elegant to have a client :)

I would also like telnet, netcat and dig.

For hostname translations you can use this as "host" command substitute: getent ahosts jolla.com

you could alias host to this

Telnet over USB to serial would be great for old CISCO networking routers and switches. Richard

You can find a telnet client on openrepos by NeilDK. Maybe he has whois also, there's a lot of tools

I also find whois really useful, and it's one of the few utilities that is not available in NeilDK's excellent repo, so I compiled it myself. You can find it here on openrepos:

https://openrepos.net/content/feathersmcgraw/whois

Current version is 5.2.9.

Enjoy!
