If still exists, see spiiroin answer in for a working fix: https://together.jolla.com/question/73121/brightness-changes-too-frequently-in-11127/

Workaround in short:

devel-su
mcetool --set-brightness-fade-als=1500

Mcetool can be installed via: pkcon install mce-tools.

Display backlight starts flickering often in low light conditions. Flickering here means that the intensity of the backlight switches in couple of seconds time three to ten times. Mostly it is somewhat fast and smooth, but at worst the intensity of the backlight may switch from the lowest to the highest and back without fade-in effect in between in a fraction of a second.

This does not seem to be connected to display timeout, and it happens when the phone is very still (reading text on a sofa for instance).

When the light sensor is covered by hand completely, the flickering does not happen.

Sailfish version is 1.1.0.39 Uitukka. I tested light sensor under good lighting conditions with csd and it reports 'Pass' with values 'covered: 0' and 'uncovered: 288'.

Isn't there some kind of automation in backlight intensity? Maybe it isn't fully optimized and is trying to add more light and then sensor sees too much light and tones it down and start adding more again?

Yes, it could be that backlight gets reflected from outside (like from users face), and automatic brightness mechanism would be a bit too trigger happy to react to it.

Please note that it (auto-brightness) is also using alot of power while doing so. Taking manual control is currently your only option. This issue is quiet old so I am sure there is a question about that out there already.

I also noticed this issue a couple of days ago (also on 1.1.0.39). I tend to keep the display brightness at about 1/4 away from the dimmest option to save some battery.

Has anyone noticed increased low-light fluctuations after updating to 3.0.0 or is it just me?

Workaround time...
