Ahoy everyone!

Since it's a tablet, and tablets often are used for video, we probably will need support for all major codecs, which is not currently present in Jolla phone. It would probably need paying for some licenses or patents or whatever, but still.

Since the tablet is a intel based, using open-source gstreamer codecs will be easier. No hardware acceleration, except for those provided by Jolla... but getting good performance out of the normal gstreamer build should be much easier.

For me and hopefully to others that's important question. I'd like to know:

  • what codecs will be supported in hardware
  • and what codecs will be supported only in software

Specifically I'd like to know if WebM (VP8|VP9 + Vorbis|Opus) decoding will be supported in tablet hardware.

Anyone got video codecs to work? Tried the ugly codec pack from openrepos but to no avail. Seems the different architecture makes the version from user sailfish_lib not suitable.

Anyone had luck with additional codecs? VIDEO plays fine but no audio on nearly any video. Guess most have AC3 or DD5.

Thanks in advance for any hint
