Though it might be too early to critique Jolla Tablets UI since all we have sawn of it is one promo video and a couple of pictures, I open the discussion considering the active covers and the look of multitasking view.

From what we have been shown this far, my opinion is that the active covers are way too small considering how much space is left around and between them. Bigger covers can have more information in them, and the webpage cover would be much more useful in bigger form. This would be in line with the principle of saving screen estate for useful content. Though there's the line where the multitasking view can become crowded if the covers are too large, in their current form there is still room for bigger covers.

What you are referring to here is the overview of apps running in the background? The title should be changed to something like "Better utilization of available space in in multitasking-view".

What I'd like to suggest is if you have 2 open apps, then that share an equal amount of the available space 50/50, 3 apps, perhaps 1/4 OR 2 smaller ones for 1/2 of the screen and 1 bigger for the other half, why leave 1/4 of the space empty. And while 1 app is running in the background the "minimized" look could cover the whole available space allocated.

Also, there could be added the possibility to move the "thumbnails" around, if you want the mail or browser app to be bigger you just move it to the left (horizontal view) or up (vertical view).

I'm thinking something like this:

@ragzy Yes, that is what I meant by multitasking view. Or home screen, which ever meaning you want to emphasize.

When I created this question I was specifically thinking that the covers were unnecessarily small while there was so much space around them, that's why I chose the title. But maybe this question should be changed to match more to your suggestion, so it could have discussion about the whole multitasking view, not just the active covers.

Considering your concept, I think it is really great. I have had kinda the same ideas for Jolla phone, but in the tablet screen it would work so much better.

This would work well with the pinch gesture. Btw they ARE called active covers.

@fasza2mobile I know they are called active covers, what do you mean?

@Grunt That comment was meant in response to the answer by ragzy, perhaps I should've made that clear. Your title was fine.

We're currently looking into what we can do to improve the active cover experience on the tablet. We will update you as soon as we know more.
