I would really like to see a MicroSD slot that can do at least 64GB (128GB+ would be much better) in the new tablet. For those of us who are not all-in on the "Cloud", it's nice to have all our docs and tunes in the tablet.

Alternatively even normal-sized SD card >=64GB; they're cheap compared to MicroSD

In third update on indiegogo it's stated that SD cards larger that 32G will be supported if campaign gathers enough funds. I hope Philippe De Swert answer still holds if it doesn't. It would be a pity if we are limited to 32G max.

MicroSD slot is there (as mentioned in the specs and comparison table). And I expect any modern sd hardware will at least support 64Gb cards.

Note : official specs state 32Gb. However as I stated above bigger cards might work too (just as on the Jolla phone) but probably this cannot be guaranteed due to the manufacturer/chip vendor not certifying the hardware for cards over 32Gb. Or there are issues with the way they are formatted (license issues for exFAT for example).

So in conclusion: officially 32Gb, anything above might work but no guarantee.

I think that was only recently added to the tech specs, the indiegogo page didn't list microSD. Interestingly enough on the tablet page on jolla.com it says: "Micro-SD slot (up to 32GB)". If that's accurate, that's a real shame.

I'm sure 64GB will work...

According to the specification the tablet will have a MicroSD slot: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204228083#Product

Since 64GB SD-cards work in the Jolla phone there should be no reason why it would not work on the tablet. Never tested bigger sizes though.
