Ability to load OS and other external Maps

Here maps is OK a long as it can be used fully offline. I would like to be able to load UK Ordnance Survey maps with or without routing. This would also be nice on the smartphone, but of course it is not possible at the moment. Before people say this is stupid especially on a phone and too expensive check Garmin Edge cycling computer which has exactly this with a tiny screen ( and high price).
Have you try halftrail map application that can handle raster map files. Application only problem is that setup needs nearly engineer skills, first have to download raster maps, convert to png format, copy to phone memory, convert to halftrail format and finally to calibrate map. Possible have to create xml file to add new coordinate systems. It's bit painful to setup map files but halftrail works with all kind of raster image files.
