Soundoutput over HFP bluetooth profile

Hi All!

My current car radio does only support the HFP bluetooth profile. This profile is usually used to make phonecalls or receive the address book on the car display. Is it somehow possible to playback audio over this profile? Maybe an emulation of a phonecall or somewhat like this. I'd like this feature for the speech of my navigation software because it can lower the music volume and output the voice.

Thanks in advance, Sqozz.

I have a portable bluetooth speaker (with hands free function), which I use for playing Internet radio. When I connect Jolla to the speaker bluetooth settings show available profiles: HSP, A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, PBAP and DID. Jolla supports your car radios profile.

There might be ome hickups with Jolla's bluetooth, because after 25 days of uptime the bluetooth audio stopped working. The connetion is established normally but the sound does not go through anymore. I advice to reboot your Jolla before trying the connection. Currently running with 1.0.8.21. There is user selectable settings for bluetooth in settings. Long press over your bluetooth device in settings --> Show device settings. Short press on bluetooth device type will let you select the type of your bluetooth device: headphones, speaker, car kit, multimedia, camera and else.

For a fast solution i advise to get a different car-audio! I changed mine to an alpine hud and everthing works like a charm ;) Ok, not the cheapest solution, but i did not regret to invest in full convenience.

@Jolla095: The Jolla supports for sure HFP, thats not questionable. I think that your bluetooth speaker uses the A2DP protocol for playing music not HFP. Music over HFP whould be pretty crappy because it isn't made for music playback (mono signal, lower bandwidth). My question is rather about a solution to playback audio ( not even music ) over this protocol. I thought someone may know an app, which can solve this task.

@mosen: Good point! I really thought about that. But there is firstly the money and moreover the features that i won't want to miss ( steering wheel control, address-book in the frontpanel, etc. ), but that's a completely different thing ;)

@sqozz, then maybe solisto is an option! It is cheaper than a whole new hud and integrates with your cars Info system. I use an early solisto in my wifes car and even with that nearly everything works fine. It is a matter of quality software on both sides from my experience. on highQ audio devices with proper BT-integration, i never had probs with jolla. But a cheap china HFP only model gave me headaches for weeks before i changed it to the solisto!
