It would be great to be able to search (and launch) any app in the launcher by typing the first few letters of the app's name. I think it's the fastest way to launch an app, especially when you have multiple pages of apps.

Yes. Would be good. Even better if the search field offered possible completions (i.e. as Alt+F2 does on KDE or other desktop environment)

Yes, of course the system would propose completions as I type!

There is now an app "Quick Launcher" in the Jolla store, which you can put as one of the four apps showing up in your home screen. Then you can open it and start typing to find the app you want to launch. Would that be what you are looking for?

Yes, pretty much!

Quick Launcher is good. But it would be better to have the same thing built-in - faster, and not taking up space in the home screen.

@ssahla: Just out of interest, how would you do it? What would trigger the search? Double tap on empty space in home screen?

@Acce, I haven't given this that much thought, so I don't really have an answer for you.

If we had a global search function (see https://together.jolla.com/question/1286/search-function-global/) it could also be used to launch apps, so a separate app search would be unnecessary. But that also would require some always-easily-accessible way to invoke it, which I can't come up with right this second. :)

@ssahla, peeking to left/right on the launcher (app grid) could be a great trigger.
