Has anyone had any luck with third-party batteries? Which model batteries have you tried? Does Sailfish OS, as distributed on other phones, need any changes to optimally run third-party batteries?

Jolla Customer Care has asked me to share that I've used a battery originally designed for ZTE devices (replacement part no. LI3719T42P3h644161) to boot an unresponsive Jolla handset. The battery was 3.7V, 1850mAh and roughly 64mm by 42mm by 6mm with the correct pins and safety catches to fit into the battery slot. I successfully ran a few apps without issues, but haven't been able to perform further tests.

I haven't checked if Sailfish OS does anything special with regards to battery monitoring, charging and safety. I don't know if it expects to query a controller on the battery's PCB, or has been hard-coded to standard operating conditions (temperature, peak voltage etc.) for the 22B50 from NLT Electronics.

I don't think this is but for the most desperate Jolla users since the form factor of the ZTE battery is different. I wish that Jolla would finally start to sell spare batteries. After more than a year, this is just ridiculous.

That's exactly what I think. The phone is still advertised with an user-replaceable battery. But how should the user replace a battery when they don't sell batteries...

Fellfrosch - by waiting until it explodes, then the user sends the now heavily damaged phone to Jolla, who replace it with a new phone (and obviously new battery).

Bought a battery this evening at http://www.batteriezentrale-muenchen.de/. "Replacement for HTC BOPA2100/DESIRE 310" fits perfectly well and also meets the specs completely.

It's a brand-labelled product of this shop, which is specializing in batteries of all types and known not to sell crap.

I can confirm that the battery is 100% compatible with the HTC Desire 310 battery. Voltage and casing are an exact match.

Does voltage and casing make it 100%, or have you tested something more? Did you test the voltage with a meter on different temperatures and on different charging levels?

I checked the voltages with a voltage meter at room temperature. I used it in my Jolla to test if it worked and charged. It did. :-)

simo, do you really think the Jolla battery is special in any way? It's a plain battery Jolla choose from products available on the market. The more users, the better its availability. Also makes sense to choose a battery that has proven to run well in a widely used handset like the HTC 310.

It's possible, and I really hope it's the same, but if not, there are some factors affecting to the charging pattern which might vary. Especially important is the voltage when fully charged to the reported capacity (not below, not above) which can't be checked from the phone.

Nice test, but the linked "X-Longer" by pawel (Jul 29 '15) is missing. I ordered another one, offered as "vhbw" brand, Model: "FOR B0PA2100", which claims to be compatible for HTC Desire 310, D310, D310f, D310w, Desire V1. link image

Actually I got the X-Longer Model as shown in pawels comment-link to batteryupgrade.at. This report is about the "X-Longer™" Model No. CS-HTD310XL, Capacity: 2100mAh 7.98Wh, 3.8V, Part No: B0PA2100link image

Electrically it seems to be 100% identical to the original JollaPhone Battery, Model 22B50 by NLT ELECTRONICS. But I haven't done any qualified metering, just checked with CSD-Tool. Also the reported battery-temperature seems to be accurate. It stayed low while charging (25.9°C) with the original power supply.

Mechanically, there's a very small difference in the height of the battery pack. I added 7 layers of household-common adhesive tape (like Scotch produces e.g.) to the bottom (simply cropped with scissors). Without that tiny socket, contact was lost sometimes and the phone rebooted.

Conclusion: According to nick75's metering report, the "Polarcell for HTD Desire 310" is on par with the original regarding capacity, but temperature reading doesn't work. My experience is that the X-Longer CS-HTD310XL also is on par regarding capacity, and also provides correct temperature reading. Just remember to make it fit more tighten by adding some layers of thin adhesive tape to the bottom-edge of the pack.

Update: It turned out that the temperature readings are fake. It's always between 25 and 25.9°C while inverting physics. The colder the battery, the higher the value (maxing out at 25.9). That's true for all 3rd-party replacement models i tested so far. But not, for the original HTC B0PA2100. They are specified with 2000mAh resulting in 7.6Wh instead of 2100mAh/7.98Wh, but the temperature reading matches real numbers!!!

Also, the original HTC fit's mechanically perfect, not like all other 3rd-party compatible packs, which are ~0.5m shorter (and need some adhesive tape onto their socket to provide reliable electrical contact) Just for the records...

how can a producer of a phone not produce any spare parts. This and other reasons is why jolla got in a financial situation anyway. I am more and more disappointed about jolla as an enterprise. Sailfish and the phone are still great, but the company sucks. Everything is constantly sold out and only available on their homepage and BIG MINUS, no original headphones. I mean I dont need the headphones but at least a micro with cable so I can use my headphones.

These are the Polarcell Batteries, the same you can buy in Ebay. They work, no problems so far but don't expect something too much. For me the phone is surviving only a couple of hours longer not even 1 complete day more I can get out of it. I was a bit disappointed but at least I can use my phone as I know it and don't have to recharge it around 15:00 like I had to with the original battery.

Patona battery, is okay, but being only 2000mAh it tends to run out before the GT battery does at 2200mAh. Both batteries are physically a good fit, with the GT battery being a very snug fit. Both roughly the same price, both good performance for their rated sizes. my fav of the two is of course, the GT battery for it slightly longer life. Both batteries are good for more than 24 hrs but not more than 48 hrs.

My opinion, if the battery physically fits, the device boots, works, doesn't get hot, doesn't switch off or have any kind of unusual fits and starts, then hey!, pick a battery, any battery and get on with your lives! :)

If Jolla are NOT going to produce batteries for its customers, you have little to no choice but to purchase a 3rd party/pattern part battery.

What is the actual (2016) status about a compatible battery?

The originals aren't sold. Which 3rd party battery are known to be nearly compatible (hardware and software qualities)?

(thanks for the comments at the original posting) / the "better" is a reference to the linked test: Quote: "... while no better options have been found yet. ". Polarcell's battery seems to have a shorter battery life and is missing correct temperature measurements. Furthermore Giacomo Di Giacomo stated that "... golden batteries do not work properly in the sense that you can only charge them once ...." - so far.

Of all the different batteries in this thread and others, the Powery battery is the only one, as far as I know, that actually comes with correct temperature measurements. I can also confirm that it seems to have a pretty good life cycle. I've used mine since august 2015 and now, it's at 92,57% capacity.

Check how the battery behaves compared to the original one. The one I took (PolarCell) is one day better one day the same like the old one... I barely manage to survive from 7:00 in the morning till 01:00 in the night

I got the Powery from ebay, seems indeed like a perfect fit so far. I can confirm that the thermal sensor is working and the indicated temperature seems correct. I still need to figure out how to make the phone charge the new battery to 100%, so far I reached 64%, then 73% and now 75% capacity
