I received my phone, but the initial setup is in the wrong language. How do I change it?

You can change the language during setup, should be the first page. If you accidentally selected a wrong language you can either reset the phone or change the system language in the settings...

As stated in this threat on tmo at some time there will be a recovery menu allowing for a factory reset.

Resetting phone:

  • Go to menu Settings > System > Reset device.
  • Tap "Clear device".
  • Tap on "Accept".
  • You need the lock code, if the phone lock is enabled.

This takes a while and the phone is powered off afterwards. Just boot it up again and set the language.

I did not select any language. I left the phone charging connected to the computer and found it in the agreement page in the wrong language.

I don't know where these settings are. I am at the agreement page.

In that case (if it's not possible to pull right to go back) try restarting the phone (without being connected to the computer).

I already restarted it untethered.

That's odd. Going back (see the link provided above) does not work? You could go through with the setup process (no need to create an account) and then change the language. That's probably hard (if you don't know the language), but you have the internet to help you find the right buttons to push.

I had already tried swiping back without looking at any documentation, but it did not work. I tried again now with now luck. The phone also did not even reset the language by itself after being switched off for 2 hours. I wanted to avoid going through the setup in a language I don't speak, that's why I asked. As there seems to be no other option, I went for it. Fortunately the language was not completely different, although I had to guess the reset part. This seems like a serious flaw if you want to sell it to the general public.
