Hello Jolla,

it would be very nice if you would somehow publish the recent kernel sources used on your devices. It would be nice to have tarballs of kernel sources when an update is pushed to Jolla devices.

An nonplus ultra would be if you could publish them on an git repository.

Coming from TMO and following the epic locked bootloader discussion there I would also suggest to open source the LK bootloader if possible.

The used Mer kernel is open source of course, but provide a way to find the right sources?

Does the mer kernel include any hardware adaption, sorry I have no link to sources right now :)

The official answer:

Settings->System Settings->About product:

"This product includes certain free/open source software. The exact terms of the licenses, disclaimers, acknowledgements are reproduced in the materials in the materials provided with this product. Jolla offers to provide you with the source code as defined in the applicable license. Please send a written request to:

That's the current way. The DVD is delivered with the source tarballs as entered into our build system.

In additional value, there is a NOTE.txt in kernel-adaptation-sbj:

"Based on https://www.codeaurora.org/cgit/quic/la/kernel/msm/commit/?id=b6c36b91b2ed506374d7c526867ec3194fa6c6bf "

Now, this is just me talking:

  • We're not yet ready to move our in-progress git kernel tree for the Jolla device into the open, but we're working on it - it's not only Jolla working on it, so multiple parties has to agree to working in the open on it.

  • Giving a DVD in this day and age sucks, but it's our way to make sure you get a complete snapshot according to your license requirements. If you want, I can dump the kernel-adaptation package matching the releases somewhere to spare the earth some CO2. I helped @kkonsta with this - and he put up https://github.com/KonstaT/sailfishos_kernel_jolla_msm8930

If some further updates would be updated there it would be already sufficient for the time being.

That should be possible without any issue, I'll prod Konsta tomorrow.

Sent kernels to Konsta, he'll put them up :)

Can we get an update?
