Louder than 100% volume?

Personally, I am not happy with the EUs regulation on maximum volume for mobiles. On webOS there was a mixer app Touchvol , that pushed the pulseaudio engine beyond 100% and it was the first cellphone that came close to the loudness of my walkmen of old. Is there something alike for the Jolla? Also, good headphones often draw more power and therefore tend to be barely audible in a subway or on the go in the city.

Quasar MX 'Pro' for Sailfish has volume boosting controls, enhance modes and a 10 band graphic EQ.

There is a setting for boosting from 0/100% > 200% volume, I only have a pair of old Nokia in-ear headphones and the boost is noticeable, along with tweaking graphics, treble, bass, etc......may be worth parting with €5 to get the extra volume..?

hehe, that's exactly the patch that got me thinking...It removes the warning, but it's still no boost beyond 100%.

Sure: no software component could increase hardware power. However QuasarMX can create an illusion of increased power through dynamic compression. OK, that is not a high fidelity concept.

I just checked the app, and while the 5€ are certainly justified for all it offers, it's not a native Sailfish OS app and also kinda overkill for a small volume up. Thanks for the pointer, though. I guess I will look into the SDK and see if I can find a way to write a native app. Any hints and pointers on the Sailfish OS audiosystem are highly welcome! Maybe we can repackage alsa-mixer? No idea on how to run or install native Linux rpms. I'm a Mer/Sailfish Noob.

It is not running on aliendalvik, but it is pretty alien :) The UI doesn't have the Sailfish feel to it.

It isn't native Sailfish indeed, but the basics have been added. It was developed for meego first, I think, and then for Symbian.

Hehe, had some time to play with my Jolla over the holidays, and look what I found:

pactl set-sink-volume 1 150%

This gives pulseaudio the needed boost. While 200% is definetly pushing the DAC you can always lower the volume via the controls. Now that we know what we have to do, who could write a patch that makes these settings sticky?

EDIT: I changed the value from 200% to 150% because if someone copies this directly 150% is a better and safer option with no distortion and the volume rocker remains functional as the granularity isn't being stretched too much (i.e. you can find a suitible value that isn't way too loud or much too quiet).

So, a patch is basically a RPM with a script and some additions to a local startup file? I think if I could find a quick tutorial on MER packaging and if I knew wich startup scripts to add my lines to, I could assist in making a package.

Yes, you're about right I believe. I don't know enough myself to help out, but I do like playing around with Terminal. So I tried yours and it works but doesn't survive reboot. A little Googling reveals that 'store' can be added to the end of your command, but it then says, "You have to specify a sink name/index and a volume". I'm trying to work that out now, as I'd be happy for the change to stay without the need for another app.

This workaround has been used by the app Maxvol. Sadly it stopped working on Xperia X. Anybody know how to get it working again?

The cutes-json-js package is in Jolla's repositories AFAICS!?! See pkcon search name cutes
@lispy, did you issue a pkcon refresh (the usual first measure, when a package cannot be found, which should be in an enabled repository)? And do you have Patchmanager 2 installed (as SailfishOS-"Patches" need Patchmanager for handling them)?

Got it installed, turned it to 150%..No effect, as with Maxvol. I want to have headphone.volume increased not speaker, if it matters. Maybe the sinks changed. I fear I will have to dig into pulseaudio settings again. Good times...not.
