Wireless charging is becoming popular, so it would be great to see an official Jolla wireless charging Other Half (preferably Qi-compatible), or an official wireless charging receiver that can be added to an existing Other Half to add wireless charging capability.

Or maybe some enterprising individual will offer such an accessory, as I'm pretty sure the demand will be there.

PS. I know about this but it's not for everyone as it currently requires soldering etc. and ordering parts from various overseas suppliers, hence the request for an "official" accessory of some kind that anyone can buy and install.

I'm quite sure there will be much demand for various "official" other half variations that every Joe Average could buy from shop or webshop. First there could be some most demanded ones like for example KB OH and this wireless charging OH. This topic would be actually a good one for a poll.

I concur been using wireless charging on different phones since original Palm Pre, it's the best!

Had a Pre+, a Pre2, a Pre3 and a Touchpad all with wireless charging and it worked flawlessly. The magnetic positioning of the device on the Touchstone ist still unmatched today by any wireless charging method there is - it was perfect. I wish SOMEBODY (wink wink) picked it up. The Jolla is the first phone I've had in a long time that I actually had to put a cable in (I used an app for wireless data transfer)... It feels like being back in the stone age, ie. the nineties.

Sounds great (that bloody microUSB is giving me the Heebie-jeebies - already lost a N900 'cause of that crap). An even greater idea would be to combine it with a physical keyboard - should be enough room for it.

2015 seems to be year Qi gets off to the masses. IKEA launches a set of furnitures with embedded Qi chargers. As well as Starbucks are introducing Qi chargers for their customers.

You all are aware of this hack?

image description

Works with existing other halves and is how I charge my wives and my Jolla. The Palm touchstones and backhalves are dirt cheap on ebay...

An official wireless charging TOH would be great, nevertheless.

I've been planning on doing a similar hack for almost a year already... I ordered a wireless charging thing that's intended for Samsung phones from eBay and have drawn its' outlines on the "red" toh so I know where to sand of some plastic to make it fit in there a bit better, but I just haven't gotten around to actually doing it :D

McFox ( 2015-06-17 14:50:24 +0300 )edit

Doesn't this bulge the TOH a lot?

Ruben De Smet ( 2015-06-18 19:08:48 +0300 )edit

I does a bit. But not too much. If you are a bit more skillfull with the soldering iron it probably won't bulge much. The upside is, if you don't like the result, you can remove it without losing anything.

lispy ( 2015-06-20 21:03:02 +0300 )edit

bought the pieces today on ebay, 20 Euros for both

I'm working on this. I should have a prototype somewhere in the beginning of the next month. It will be a TOH, because the pad bulges the phone pretty hard.

I'm trying to see whether people are still interested in this. If you're on reddit, you can follow this thread too.

Edit: one more picture, please keep in mind that I have to alter the TOH a little, this doesn't really represent the actual thing :)

@heubergen, I don't think that's possible the way I'm doing it right now. but perhaps after things work :)

Hi, I completely agree an "official" charging TOH would be great. Waiting for it, I arranged this solution with no abilities necessary at all, and works! http://forum.jollausers.com/jolla-phone/no-soldering-almost-flat-wireless-qi-charging/msg6907/#msg6907

Hi. I know this post hasn´t been touched for a year or so now, but as ´ve now got the "need" (It´s more a wish as I´ll get a car which has got the option to charge mobiles wireless).... I tried to figure out if there is an official TOH with wireless charging option meanwhile, but it seems there isn´t. Therefore my question is... Would anybody maybe be be able to sell me a working Wireless Charging TOH for a Jolla 1?

Hi.

If your looking for wireless charging and don't mind it's not official Jolla product, you should try getting one from FunkyOtherHalf it does have optional QI-charging pad capability.

Mine arrived from FunkyOtherHalf yesterday - charges fast and fits well. Looks a bit 'custom' (read: "rough around the edges") but does the job. The other half itsself is a little bit bigger than the standard one to accommodate the electonics but otherwise all good so far.

Thanks for the info Ryan. I'm waiting for the CarbonFiber OH.

Either I am blind, or the Qi charging OH is not any longer available. Which one has wireless charging capability?

He's not doing them at the moment. I think mainly concentrating on the Other Half Keyboard for the moment. You may find this interesting/helpful.

I do not like to have only one backcover with wireless charging capability! How about not doing it with a theotherhalf but just with a pad fitting in under theotherhalf with compatibility to coming theotherhalf extensions?

TeHeR ( 2014-02-12 01:58:38 +0300 )edit

@TeHeR if you'd call it that but "leave alone theotherhalf"

chemist ( 2014-02-12 17:57:08 +0300 )edit

@chemist: I fon't understand. Could you explain / rephrase please?

TeHeR ( 2014-02-13 02:35:38 +0300 )edit

@TeHeR a thin plastic wrapped coil between theotherhalf and the phone

very good idea!!! there is a lot of free space in the white and poppy red TOH - it would be great to order this in the webshop.
