Since switching ambience isn't that frequent action (and since there are amazing related projects, please vote here) I think it would be more suitable to get notifications on left/right pane and move global settings for current notification área.

There are several questions about improvements for notifications: add rss and calendar events... I think it would be great to have the chance to choose on which pane we have each pool of features.

Thanks. This community rocks.

I'm talking about current ambience selector on Multitasking level not everywhere, so please just read comments from people who want to talk with you.

Edit I've make it a community wiki so you can edit and delete this notice. :-)

While I can agree the ambience switcher is at the moment far from the potential of the place it is occupying, we have already seen at MWC14, there's more to come in that space. Also I believe the potential of the ambience ffeature itself wll improve far beyond the current functionality.

More importantly your idea brings a huge inconsistency into the UI concept. One would do the same thing (or almost the same) different ways on different places in the UI. For what reason?

You are right the event view has plenty of space for improvement, so let's talk about what could be done to make it work better for the users (integrating global settings, more detailed information available at the event view, notifications log, API so third party apps can use it, ...) rather than creating a new place for the same information/purpose.

So instead of swiping from the bottom up in any screen (including in running apps) to check your notifications you would rather swipe from the right to the left only in the open tasks screen?

Somehow I think the way it is set up right now (swiping from the bottom upwards on any screen) makes the notifications much more accessible than what you are requesting.

The other thing is that swiping to the left from the right side does different things in different applications, and I think that for some people that would be very annoying when they want to do one thing and instead they are checking their notifications. Very few applications (that I have encountered) need any swiping from the bottom upwards except to scroll down, because most take on a horizontal configuration where screens in an application are arranged left-to-right instead of up-to-down.

I think an option like what you propose might appeal to some people, but ergonomically I think the way it is set up right now is very very well done, with the notifications screen being accessible through a very unique gesture not found in most any other application and there are more important things to focus on.

If I understood Someoneortwo's point correctly, he tried to suggest that you'd be able to change the swipe left/right action where nowadays appears the ambience switcher (a swipe down from home screen and then left/right), not everywhere.

I've actually never changed my ambience after the setup of the phone. I think it would be nice to do something actually useful with swipe left/right.

There was actually a patch for patchmanager that could change ambience swither to control panel, but it doesn't work with update9

A bit offtopic but personally I would love the option to completely disable left/right swiping - it interferes with android games and applications.

I'm for combination of notifications with quick toggles, see here: https://together.jolla.com/question/4568/settings-quick-switches-favourites-available-easier/?answer=8791#post-id-8791

I'd rather have a quick settings panel instead of ambience or notification area (when swiping from from right border to left I mean, or maybe even from top border down?). some place that one can access very fast and switch wifi, plane mode, brightness, flashlight torch, bluetooth, brightness, gps etc... like a configurable "quick settings area"...

Could even still contain the ambiences... :-)

I personally agree that a lot more could be done with the left/right push as well. I'd like to use it for quick app switching, as suggested here: https://together.jolla.com/question/16455/edge-gesture-app-switch/ This takes away the need to always go back to Home in order to go into another app. So one of the side pushes to go back HOME, the other to go to the previous app.

Then adding the quick settings to the Notifications area, as is suggested in the most popular answer here:
