[hardware request] Jolla Tablet Toss - link two tablets [answered]
A TOH idea needs a hardware connection for the actual link as no-one sane uses BT or WLan for such a task.
How about putting the connectors on one of the long edges of the tablet so a hardware link between two tablets can be established. A hinge with orientation free connectors. It would need to be convertible, so you can actually turn the second tablet to the back of the first and have it in L-shape sitting in front of you with one screen pointing away from you (presentation).
This could also be used for TOH development, people could print their own tablet size TOH or jolla could provide a molded pre-jointed polycarbonate TOH where you adapt your hardware and plugin the connectors to the joints.
Do we have TOH for tablet? Didn't see its mention anywhere in the campaign?
anandrkris ( 2014-12-11 07:18:31 +0200 )editNot gonna happen.
As mentioned, there appears to be no TOH on the tablet. The hardware is probably 99% fixed, it is certainly too late for developing and integrating a new type of interface. Also, a very specific use scenario. Who will buy TWO tablets and is going to want to use them this way? A presentation on a 7,85" screen sounds awful.
Better idea: mhl capability and compatibilty for bluetooth remotes! Anyone know something about this?
Pistol ( 2014-12-11 09:49:20 +0200 )edit@Pistol, don't be so negative, and btw it is nothing more than 5-7 pins needed to add to the current design, so some wires... and who fixes a design 2-3 months before production? MHL, if not already implemented needs additional wiring too and proper redesign of internal paths... and bluetooth remotes... all remotes that already work with other linux modules can be made working too.
chemist ( 2014-12-11 10:20:56 +0200 )edit@anandrkis not yet, Carsten Munk was telling about "Last word is not spoken on this matter yet!"
chemist ( 2014-12-11 10:22:11 +0200 )edit@chemist I'm not negative, I'm just trying to be realistic.
I believe your idea has potential in the sense that the interface could also be used for docking the tablet to a charger or a hardware keyboard, making it a kind of mini-netbook. But the dock, keyboard, etc would have to be developed and manufactured by Jolla or their partner, because if the phone's TOH is any indication it would not live up to it's potential otherwise. (Again, not trying to be negative!)
So while I don't dislike the idea itself, I think MHL would be much more useful and desired (mirroring screen on TV/projector!), and we don't seem to have a statement on this yet.
