I would actually prefer a custom whatsapp client to the original client, coming from the n900 and yappari, I don't get how people can live with just one chat window, I sometimes had like 5 or 6 of them open.

I prefer an integrated client. There is a telepathy plugin based on yowsup although it is discontinued. Would Jolla add it to Sailfish if it were a functional telepathy connection manager for whatsapp?

Wazapp is great on N9, android whatsapp just doesn´t work on Jolla as it should. So anythng that works is perfect for me.

coming from n900 me too, and yappari it's fantastic. For me it's better than original whatsapp.

petros ( 2014-01-03 20:39:23 +0300 )edit

Will it be integrated to the system? Or will it remain as a separate app?

There is a preview of persecute for Sailfish here. Anyway, I still prefer it integrated with telepathy or, at least an open source app. I hope coderus releases the code at some point.

I will release sources when main work in Mitakuuluu will be finished.

And about telepathy plugin - if anyone make libpurple for Nemo/Sailfish and it will be accepted to main repositories i will build telepathy plugin for whatsapp. It's already done.

coderus ( 2013-12-25 21:17:18 +0300 )edit

"It's already done." Do you mean the telepathy plugin is already done? A Telepathy plugin would really cool, as other clients could also make use of your work. If sources of a working telepathy plugin are public could link to them? Thank you for your awesome work!

I really like this Mitakuuluu whatsapp client, and I'm a little bit worried, because @coderus wrote, that the project is closed until something happens!? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92160

I imported contacts by opening a vcf file.

can you give some instructions on how to do that? Would be a big help! Thanks!

#(Create a vcf on Android by going to 'people' -> optionbutton -> import/export -> export to storage) #Browse to the created vcf file in a file browser (download oi file browser maybe?) #Send the vcf over bluetooth to yout Jolla #Go to settings -> Transfers -> click on the vcf -> import

kdl ( 2013-12-26 11:25:26 +0300 )edit

cool that works! Thanks a lot really needed this (when did everybody stopped using SMS?) :-) Weird that it doesn't work with your google imported contacts...

so, with the update 1.0.3.8 the Mitäkuuluu app is not working as it should, the contacts are missing again.

the developer coderus posted today: @iCODeRUS: I won't support #Mitakuuluu development until #Jolla make proper way to fetch contacts database for apps. http://t.co/I9D90maBLa

now, we have now working whatsapp client any more. maybe Jolla should think about their own native whatsapp client.

It looks like Jolla changed access restrictions to contacts for 3rd party apps. Get more information here

Eische ( 2014-02-01 21:43:38 +0300 )edit

well it's not so much a problem of reading the contacts as it is to write a proper database after they are read. if you start mitakuuluu as root you will be able to load the contacts list but after that mitakuuluu can't write these contacts to it's database. same thing if you edit the privileges

The Android Whatsapp works reasonable for the time being. I'd really prefer a native version though.

I haven't find a way to sync my contacts though

For me not always creates a notification when there is a new message, or it takes a (very) long time to receive new messages, so sometimes I don't see a message after 30-40 minutes.

Eismann ( 2013-12-25 00:00:39 +0300 )edit

Contacts sync works for me. Android version from 1mobile market http://www.1mobile.com/whatsapp-messenger-57975.html works well as you have said though the notifications can be a bit intermittent, tried Mitakuuluu liked it but no emotions and file sending was a bit of a barrier. If the android version could show a blinking light on new message then it would be brilliant. Overall Mitakuuluu offers a more integrated experience in terms of notifications, however android whatsapp has more of the features, e.g. emoticons, that we are used to with the downside of less reliable notifications and not being able to email conversation (option not allowed). Will stick with android WhatsApp for now and wait till Mitakuuluu is up to Wazapp standards.

sugaryenigma ( 2014-02-06 20:01:50 +0300 )edit

Discovered that you can get, contacts, gallery, and email chat working on Android WhatsApp by downloading corresponding Android apps, can also share files across other android apps which is very useful e.g. you can share a file you receive by email, WhatsApp etc. to Instagram or Facebook and vice versa. Just notifications missing now for me.

app seems to be working ok. as others stated above, it is not sending any notification when window is closed plus the send media option is not working. you can select a picture to send or whatever other file but it will not send it. you can receive files instead just fine

Until there's proper native app isolation, I will certainly not install an official Whatsapp client.

Unfortunately, as I understand Mitakuuluu project is suspended because Whatsapp has changed the API. All opensource Whatsapp related projects seem to be in the same situation. Let's just hope this was not a move to block 3rd party apps from accessing Whatsapp network, and it's just a temporary situation.
