Hi all,

I'm writing this post because I'm getting totally frustrated with my Jolla, because of the known issue when BTRFS shows it's full. The user interface gets totally unresponsive I need to wait for 5 minutes so I can make a call, browse etc.

It's getting real FRUSTRATING, because the pone is my daily driver and I need it WORKING!! Don't get me wrong I love my Jolla, conceptually it's far ahead than iOS/Droid experience. But it just DOESN'T WORK that's my biggest problem, even when I'm not using it when I get a call I can't answer because the interface is almost dead or I hear the ring but the interface doesn't show anything. I've already performed the steps once, by freeing space even though I had 4 GB free before, 'de frag' BTRFS etc. and the phone started to work normally again. But now it happens again and I'm totally pissed, because I love it but I 'hate' it. Why should I perform that procedure each time I increase the storage utilization, I don't have time each time to 'play' with my Jolla, I need it working not hacking each time.

I know that you are small team and you are doing everything with love and a lack of resources and I admire you for the boldness of doing it! But you need to o something about issues like that, because these are the things which are creating the real experience for the user. You can't expect to sign a deal with a big phone company without removing glitches like that. At least you should post and official fix/guide how to mitigate that issue, why should follow 10 pages of forum post, creating scripts, deamons etc? How can you imagine providing that bug to Xiaomi for example and expecting that they will sell phones which provides that experience and requires so much technical knowledge?

You need to get rid of the PoC/hacking mentality and get to be a company which provides the best consistent experience across your products. You know we all love prototype cars, but at the end everyone buys VW or Opel or Ford because even though everyone knows they are rubbish, they can bring yo from point A to point B successfully.

Sorry for the long, but I hope you understand me, so please tell me officially how to fix that problem and mitigate in future? Please don't tell me to factory reset my phone, because I'll never do it. Please take responsibility.

I still love Jolla, but unfortunately for the first time I'm starting to think about getting 1+One, or some other Droid so I know I have a working phone and just playing with my Jolla and waiting for you to deliver consistent experience.

Regards

which release do you use? 1.1.0.38/39 uses a lot of memory (not disk) - maybe that's your problem - stop e.g. dalvik or other memory consuming apps, if the are not necessary
try to move some more content to your sd-card, systems need some space to live ;-)

Have you installed Mitakuuluu? it has a known Bug letting its process take 100% processing power. Just quitting Mitakuuluu helped me when phone was unresponsive!

@mosen obviously it's not a CPU problem, htop, top, whatever GUI for that would show

Btrfs balancing procedure is not yet proven to be absolutely safe on the version of the kernel used on the Jolla phone. So, until we will be sure it is safe enough we can't enable it to be executed automatically, as also add it e.g. to the Sailfish Utilities package. Back-porting of btrfs fixes from recent kernels is the hard task (if it is still possible) - a lot of things was changed.

But we are working on getting it enabled for non-power users with minimal risk.

DEZ thanks for the response mate, but I didn't see anywhere in your answer how should I fix my phone?! Sorry but even though you close is as a duplicate, you didn't gave me a solution to my problem. How can I get my phone to a consistent UI experience, given the problem I described? And please don't close my problem without giving me a solution!

@Tsetso If you have an issue you can't solve by yourself you should contact Jolla Support (https://jolla.zendesk.com/), this is the right place to solve customer's issues. This site is to discuss solutions, the specific solution for btrfs balancing issues was discussed and there is no reason to create duplicate question - it creates a mess and prevent people from searching for the answer (read rules here: https://together.jolla.com/faq/). As I said, if you need personal treatment, contact Support, they help to solve troubles.
